PORT Adelaide won't rest over its Easter weekend SANFL bye, instead fixturing a trial game against amateur league goliath Goodwood Saints. Allocated the bye in the opening round over the Easter weekend, the Magpies will instead play the Saints on Easter Thursday 2 April under lights at Thebarton Oval. The Academy will play division two side Prince Alfred Old Collegians in the curtain-raiser, and will also play Tea Tree Gully at 9:15am before Port Adelaide's trial game against the Crows at Alberton on March 21.

When was the last time an amateur aussie rules team played against a SANF...sorry, AFL team?

When was the last time a professional team referred to its ammo opponents as a "goliath" and a "powerhouse"?

An internal trial would have more benefit than flogging Ammos! Still let's hope the Ammos go the knuckle!

Goodwood are as professional a club you will find outside the SANFL. They will not go the knuckle.

Yeah I know that but sometimes you need to make a special effort because its Port.

Definately, we played the new Port last year in a trial and they cried like stuck pigs when we showed a bit of physicality, bit different to the old Port.

The eagles are in for a world of pain this season if the bulk of that squad get league games this year. Half the names are players who are reserves standard at best  The only names I can think of who are missing and you would expect to get a game are Giuffreda, Jarrad, Wundke, Thurlow and Petrenko (assuming he doens't stick with Essendon). Its clear that our achilles heel will be the same as it has been for the last 6-7 years - our midfield.

If the midfield can offer that forward line enough supply there's a potent mix up there and the back line will be sound. Depth may be the issue if injuries hit though.

When not if Booney.

Same for all teams, though, not just the Eagles. Can always bank on an average of 6-8 players unavailable each week due to injury across a league and reserves squad in the SANFL.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Big man depth is critical. Players get tired but never get shorter.
