Willaston Hotel (buffet breakfast)

For Easter Sunday my mother and I went to the Willaston Hotel for a their buffet breakfast mainly due to their 'buy one get free' deal in the Barossa Herald paper. Started off poorly walked in saw a 'please wait to be seated' sign so continued walking around the front and back of the bar looking for someone to serve us after a few minutes we contemplated walking out. Eventually a woman served us I presented the voucher ($12.90 adult, i.e. $6.45 ea) and she tried to charge us $19 something we said no it's buy one get free and she said she couldn't read the voucher because she wasn't wearing her glasses and then suggested it didn't sound right and she better go and get said glasses. At this point we thought we might've made a mistake going there at all but she put her glasses on confirmed it was buy one get free and not buy one get one half price she was trying to charge us.

Anyway on principle I decided I was now going to murder the buffet and set about trying to eat the largest amount of food I've ever eaten. First plate I got two pieces of bacon, a large hash brown, a croissant, two little sausages, a tomato and a serving of scrambled eggs and repeated that a further two times. Topped it off with a slice of watermelon and was so full couldn't even finish my glass of coke. For $6.45 obviously was good value but not sure I would pay full price if not for the Barossa Herald's voucher.

Going out for tea tonight with the mrs and a couple of friends from Melbourne. Found out they are big snitty fans. Narrowed down to ale house, snitty house or earl of Leicester. Will book at lunch time. Leaning towards the earl but what is the consensus on here? I have never been to either by the way.

Go the Earl, The Earl of Aberdeen.

Craps all over the Leicester, IMO.

Much better service, there as well.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Lychie Restaurant down at the Pier.

The missus and I had their "Tapas", testing the memory a bit but think it included:

2 x Prawn Spring Rolls
2 x Chicken Dim Sum
4 x Satay Peanut Prawns
1 x Fly Lice
1 x Kung Pow Chicken
1 x Sizzling Garlic Seafood

$35 per head .. Couldn't fault it all, wouldn't mind going back and actually ordering off the menu to better determine their fare, but food was tasty and pretty cheap.

7/10

Birkenhead Tavern (breakfast)

$16.90 for the Big Birk - bacon, eggs, toast, mushrooms, roma tomatoes, baked beans and spanish sausage.

Never had a bad meal for lunch and breakfast was just as good. Massive amount of mushrooms was the highlight.

Pancake Kitchen in the City

go there a coupla times a year.

always enjoy their brekky.

7.5/10 - I think the German Feast is somewhat smaller and im not a huge fan of their eggs. but they aren't on their pat Malone in that department.

on a sidenote and this could end up on a number of other threads here

a couple in their 50's and probably pushing 60 wander in.
they are escorted to a table and tell the waiter they know what they want and are ready to order cos they are running late and are in a rush, and the tone of voice she used was just completely disrespectful.

having the displeasure of sitting at a table nearby, heard a few other comments she made.

they got served brekky, but they haven't received their drinks, so she gets up and stalks a waiter to find out where they are...a few mins passes by and another waiter enters the room and she calls out that they are hers.
then when the waiter is putting them on the table, she says its better late than never.........
really???

I did bite my tongue cos she was just an arrogant bitch

now in my mind if you go to a popular venue like the Pancake Kitchen you can understand that brekky may not be the quickest to be served. The same with Blu Café down Aldinga - always busy, so you take that into consideration, so if you are in a rush and running late, just go through the Maccas drive thru........

The Enfield Hotel.

Great playground for the kids and they eat free but unfortunately I don't have kids.

25% off voucher meant it was $30 for two and a 6/10 schnitzel was as good as it gets there. It did look suspiciously like the coles deli variety though. Girl behind the counter may have been serving us at the wrong time of the month or perhaps gets fined for smiling.

There are 5 better pubs/clubs within a 5km radius.

We went to the enfield once - there was barely any lighting, the place smelt musty and it took 3 goes to order something off the menu that they actually had available to cook.

Worst meal I ever had - I dont think we even finished it and haven't been back since.

Went to the Carlisle again last night, and Im thinking they might buy the schnittys from the same place. Pretty average. Ok to go grab something if I dont want to cook, but its not somewhere I would "go out for tea".

The chips tasted very old as well.

First time we went - 7/10

Last nights visit - 4/10

Nah not yet. Thats next on the list. There's so many places around us, it's hard to get to them all.

Tonight Im gonna get the mixed grill at North Haven Footy Club. If you haven't had one there, you haven't had a mixed grill.

A little story while Im bored about the NHFC mixed grill....

A couple of years ago, I was just minding my own business, struggling through the immense amount of meat on the plate, and a guy I'd never met came over and told me I better finish it. When I asked why, he said he had $50 on me finishing it, and his mate at the bar had $50 against me.....his mate won.

Having lived in Greenacres for ten years and having spent many nights punting, poking and scraping the bottom of the social barrel I have given it about 6 goes in 12 years and never had a really good meal there.

Not sure why anyone would eat there unless you had kids.
