With Port appealing the decision and suggesting a fine would be more appropriate - that raises an interesting question.

If the tribunal decide either in this case, (or any other report that goes to the tribunal for that matter), that a fine IS the appropriate punishment, do they factor in that the average AFL listed player is on 10 times the salary of the average SANFL listed player when they determine how much the fine is?
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Are you daring to suggest that the $200 fine Podsiadly got won't deter him from doing something stupid again?

That seemed so bizarre, since when have fines been acceptable punishments when found guilty of striking? It was like 'we don't want to suspend him but it was worth more than a reprimand, so let's add a bit more to the punishment.' Who knows the logic of tribunals but it wouldn't surprise me if they gave him that fine as they knew he was going to miss at least a game through injury anyway so a suspension meant nothing to him. I don't think $200 meant a whole lot more though.

Yep no doubt the tribunal would have pressure on them to not 'suspend' AFL listed players!

The whole scenario is a joke

Surely Port should be censured for this incredibly frivolous appeal?

Agree. Smacks of desperation to attempt to enforce control over a league they have no part of. I'm sure Freud would have a view on this.

Pretty sure any other club would have lodged an appeal too. Clutching at straws I think.

Would Port have appealed if he wasnt pushing for AFL selection this week and was just one of the regular Joes?
Highly doubt it IMO.

Would've it even made news if it wasn't an AFL player that needs pandering to.

Of course it would have. A player touching an umpire is always going to make news, particularly when it's recorded.

No denying that, every club has special people. Norwood and Sturt certainly have at least one each.
