Booney these pictures have such great clarity I am guessing, and I don't need to know who, that the photographer must have been a pro and the collection is probably worth being preserved by the SANFL for us all.

Hi Doc, I honestly don't know.

I'm part of a closed Facebook group and one chap in particular posts these pictures. His library must be outstanding!

I think this one deserves its own post. This family has given more to football in this state than any other and had an influence on the Port Adelaide Football Club like no other family, in any club, anywhere.

I was thinking that.

From memory, he had health issues that caused loss of hair, & resultant use of wig.

Not sure if it was cancer or something similar, someone might be able to clarify?

Spot on GWW re health issue - it wasn't cancer or similar but those rumours did the rounds at the time.

I think that Barrie simply suffered at that time from alopecia. His hair fell out in clumps.

http://www.patient.co.uk/health/alopecia-areata

Many people thought that it was a side effect from the "Evil Dwarf's" decision to remove all reference to Barrie at the club. Barrie apparently was heartbroken. I am actually amazed to see the real God wearing the candy stripes rather than the big "V".

I guess taking down all references to Barrie worked to some extent with a couple of premierships (what would we give to have a coach deliver one premiership at the moment), but given the squad we had, we should have won more.

The most famous sufferer of alopecia in the SANFL was probably Rohan Smith of Port.

As well as being SA's two best footballers ever, Barrie and Russell share a wonderful friendship as anyone who ever saw them at Prospect when Barrie used to work in the North souvenir booth could attest. Russell used to stand by the souvenir booth for the whole match.

Was in Broken Hill over the weekend and while doing the usual tourist stuff I stumbled upon this at the Silverton museum about 25km out HD the city.
