Who in their right mind thinks it's ok to abuse an umpire, and then threaten to assault him, then actually assault him either at all, or even if you're crazy enough to think at all, of all things whether the man on the mark is a foot forward or a foot backwards.

This is absolute looney tunes

I'm definitely not condoning threatening and umpire, I did say I couldn't hear what was being said by our guy, you are right it's not on and does sound like something he would say. 50 did apologise after the game and your ump has accepted this as he changed his card from red to yellow I believe. You were obviously closer to this than me so IMO the send off was justified. I probably should have been clearer in my post and found out more info, there is always two sides to every story. My point still is that your side won the game without his assistance, but because of the way he is on field, good or bad, you will always be seen to have to consistently defend yourselves. We were in the exact same position about four years ago. In the light of day, if we had just shut our mouths it may have not got to frustration levels either. There was a free down ground late in the third he gave where he claimed abuse, as the captain, I asked our player what he said and he said he wasn't even talking to the ump he was talking to one of our own players, if during the game we had shut up when things didn't go our way maybe there wouldn't have been the misunderstanding, who knows.

You guys won because you were better plain and simple - I want to make it clear that I'm not labelling your ump a cheat, it's not what I mean, my original post was mostly in reference to the discussed incident and take your side of the story at face value, again maybe I should have been clearer and just asked what happened instead of assuming we were in the right. If he said what you say he said then it was actually probably handled well. Letting our frustrations out is something I'll bring up during the week, it really gets us nowhere even if we disagree, we should just shut up.

he might not be a cheat but he was ******* shit

and I don't bag umpires on here coz its a **** of a job
but the guy was a deadest ****.

I was right next to our player when the ump got in his face as he was kicking for goal.

but not after the shot, so I don't know what was said then, but what was said before the shot was harmless

I was the one who ran off adjacent to them as I thought he was going to hit him after already having made contact. Number 50 is a very lucky man to be playing football again. No matter how bad an umpire is making contact with them is beyond reprehensible.

FWIW they were both terrible the whole game. Both detracted from a decent contest.

A long time ago I decided to not let umpires effect my day at the football whether I'm playing, spectating, coaching or guzzling froths and putting forward witty banter. They put forward a D grade performance but your not going To get Razor Ray and Michael Avon umpiring Div 8 Reserves.

I enjoyed the day and was really impressed with GG facilities, it's been 9 years since I have played there and last time I got changed in a shipping container. Scoreboard and clock were fantastic and it was good to have a beer with a few of the Grove lads after the game. Good bunch of lads and a quality place to play football now.

100% agree - both were pretty ordinary and they took away from what was a good game of footy played in pretty good spirits - to be honest if there was any niggling it was probably due to frustrations with what was or wasnt being paid by both umpires.

50 is lucky to be able to play next week for sure, he knows this and knew he was in the wrong which is why he approached the ump after the game. Hats off to him for accepting the apology and putting it down to a yellow card send off, I didnt see him actually touch the ump but enough people have said it happened to say it did - moving on now. Umps rarely affect the outcome of a game IMO - and I agree your guy isnt a cheat, he is just not all that good, but what do we expect at this level. I unfortunately had to bail straight after our game so I missed the beers but I will be sure to return the favour next time round - hopefully we sneak a few wins between now and that game!

so far all 4 games I have played in this year apart from the odd niggle or two have been played in good spirits
and even after I had a run in with a player on the weekend, 5 mins later its all forgotten and you move on

Oh crap, I was supposed to post this morning...how bad do I feel right now :(

Sorry SD. Happy 250! :partyman: :prayer:

Magnificent effort from our Prez - there is not one person who works more tirelessly around Hope Valley than he - I only wish everyone at Hope Valley could share in his achievements tomorrow but unfortunately didn't get a B grade spot. :(
