It would've been expensive, but it would have been well worth it, even if only 2/3 of it was put in place.

Probably would have solved some of our current traffic problems though.....

That's my point.

Only in the last 10 years have we started to implement parts (or modified sections) of that original plan. Now it's just a patchwork modification of a miniscule section of that plan.

I think most of the big roads should be.
The Southern and Northern expressways should of been toll roads from the start. Would be happy to pay the toll

Will tolls create bottlenecks on the alternate route's?

Surely the stubborn nature of South Australian's will translate into reluctance to travel down this extension due to the tolls.

If it is priced correctly, no...

If it is going to cost me $1.50 each way for instance I would do it. If that turned into $3.50 or higher like in Sydney and Brisbane then I think you would see people clogging up the backstreets

I'd be happy to pay a toll to get South Rd upgraded - trying to get from the southern suburbs to Pt Wakefield Rd is a nightmare. But I can definitely see Adelaide drivers clogging up secondary routes in order to avoid the tollgate. When someone from Adelaide visits Melbourne, eight times out of ten they come back saying how great it is that SA has no toll roads. (These are the same sort of people who used to come back with a box of Krispy Kreme and a verbal orgasm that lasted until the contents of said box were eaten.) :?

There is the key. Sporadic users of the extension would be happy to pay it. It's the regular users where opinion would be divided.

The article above specifically mentions ruling out "commuter" tolls (as opposed to tolls in general) so you could be on the money here.

The MATS plan was canned because of , you guessed it , the adelaide city council did not want freeways laid through the suburbs and for it to create "slums" like Los Angeles . Someone with their wisdom thought this would happen if the MATS plans went ahead, along with cost

Pay a toll, drive at a constant speed, uses less fuel. Tax dollars DO NOT pay for this as its privately funded hence the "toll". Less fuel, not as much tax paid in fuel you would put in if using normal roads. Most people say "why should i have to pay rego and i pay too much in fuel already which is enough taxes. They dont realise that the "toll" is to pay to use this road because its NOT funded by the tax payer.
Use normal roads, sit in traffic stop starting , uses more fuel, you pay more fuel tax

I use toll road everyday in QLD , spend more time with family and pay LESS fuel
