R8 - WWT Eagles v Sturt @ Woodville

Postby Dutchy » Thu May 28, 2015 10:55 pm

EAGLES
Woodville-West Torrens has been strengthened by the return of star pair Jared Petrenko and Michael Wundke for Sunday’s clash with Sturt at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval.
As the Eagles look to celebrate their 25th year in the SANFL, Petrenko (hamstring) and Wundke (calf) have overcome their injuries to be named on the extended interchange bench.
Key defender Jake Von Bertouch has also been named on the pine after having his strong form in the Reserves recognised.
Improving midfielder Tom Schwarz (hamstring) is the only certain omission at this stage with two more players to be trimmed before the bounce.

STURT
Sturt has boosted its potency in preparation for its clash with the Eagles at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval on Sunday.
Norwood recruit Mark Evans and veteran Matt Duldig have been named on the extended interchange after strong form in the Reserves.
Evans has built confidence in his shoulder while Duldig is coming off an 11-goal haul against Central in his last Reserves outing.
Jarrod Lienert, the son of former Double Blues player Brett, is a strong chance to make his league debut in defence.
Lienert, who measures in at 193cm and 87kg, could replace fellow backman Jack Stephens who will miss 4-6 weeks with a back injury.
Former Geelong forward Brad Hartman, who returned to SA earlier this year due to homesickness, will make his return to Unley in the Reserves.
Hartman, who played five AFL games for the Cats last year, kicked eight goals for Murray Bridge team Ramblers last weekend in his third outing with the River Murray Football League club.
‘’We’re pleased to welcome Brad back since he parted ways with Geelong,’’ Sturt football manager Shane Grimm said.
‘’He’s eased back into things nicely and we look forward to seeing him play in the Reserves on Sunday.’’

Should be a classic game.

Sturt's impressive recent record at Oval Ave., may see us sneek home by 9 points.

I believe Sundays game is telecast. As I will be at the game I would like to watch a replay later. My foxtel does not record HD so is there a link to any replays.

Game of the round by far. Think the Eagles will just be too strong and run away with it by between 15 - 20 points

Looking forward to seeing this one on the SANFL site if they bother to replay it.

Could have been a cracking game but just too wet for that....... so we had a soccer game that finished 6-3.

That just about sums it up. The score line was flattering for Sturt I the end, played stupid wet weather footy and played like spuds

I thought the Eagles dominated the first 3 quarters and should have been up a little more than they were. The last quarter was totally Sturt everywhere except on the score board. I can not recall the Eagles in the Sturt back 50 area. The Eagles defense played good wet weather footy. It is their strong point this year. Thompson, Rakiwasi and Goldy have added to the defense. Wunke showed just how deadly he can be with the opportunities he had.
Crowd according to Advertiser 2830. Must have all been under cover.
A slight negative was the clash of the 2 blue jumpers. The Eagle had their special commemorative jumper with white shorts.

Agreed it didn't look a 2800 crowd but when I went into the clubrooms at the start of the second quarter there would have been at least 300-400 people in there over the 2 floors. it wasn't the best outside plus there was a large Past Players and Officials show going on (to do with the 25 years) hence the large number indoors.
As for the game, the first quarter deluge spoilt the game as a spectacle and it became a war of attrition. Our defence was superb all day but especially in the last quarter when Sturt were virtually camped in our 50 M arc. (21-3) forward entries in the last quarter Sturt's way. Luke Thompson given best at the awards.

Great to see the radical revamping of the eagles defence. Raikiwasa has added poise. Goldy and Jarrad have added run and penetration and Thompson gives the defence a solid marking option. These changes compliment the new team/zone defence which has stifled many forward attacks.
