AFTER 26 YEARS FINALLY APPROVAL HAS BEEN GIVEN FOR THE OLD LE CORNU SITE.

Adelaide council not happy as it is double the height of what they didnt approve so the government approved it under the major project status

Yeah it was always going to get approved this way. 26 years of a barren site amd ugly fences. I think the government just had enough of the ACC and in the end would have approved just about anything.

agreed. But its funny as the council rejected the first proposal as the 8 story building was "too high" for North Adelaide . Now the government has approved the project with the building being 16 stories

I get the impression that the SA governments attitude to a housing crisis is akin to "rack 'em and stack 'em" rather like the disastrous "Tower Blocks" put up in the UK years ago.

Mind you we built open classrooms in our schools when they were getting rid of them as proven disasters in the UK too.

if there is going to be tower blocks like the UK version , it certainly wont be in Adelaide. More so Sydney or Melbourne.

With so many rejections from the council it wont be in our lifetime that you see a forest of "tower blocks" in the suburbs or CBD in adelaide.

1 16 story building in north adelaide will not open up a can of worms for more 16 story buildings side by side along oconnell street as an example.

I can't remember the detail, but the SA state government suggested in May that it was in favour of 4 and 8 storey blocks on the periphery of the city - like Dulwich - and along major roads like Glen Osmond Rd, Unley Road, and Anzac Highway . And there was the mega-tower idea for the Festival Plaza region on park lands which would be OK because the land would be leased to the developer not sold...

Both ideas IIRC were to have shops and businesses at lower levels and residential units above.

4-8 story buildings is not going to be a "forest of buildings in the suburbs"

How tall was this "mega tower" suppose to be ? 17 stories?

Even we mild claustrophobes don't like to feel closed in while driving through the streets.
It must come from being only one generation away from being a rural dweller on both sides of my family!

I must be careful about being "anti-development" now, as I've been going out with Martin H-Smith's' sister for a few months.

Tagara Builders / Murray Bridge Shopping Centre :

The future of a major Adelaide construction firm — which has more than $100 million of projects on its books — is in doubt after unpaid building contractors walked off the job today.

Where have you been going?

Since you asked... ;)
Apart from the usual restaurants down Unley way and dinners with mutual friends, to theatre productions on free tickets she gets because she is in the business, to the Repat. Ball, and the new Gallipoli TV series launch at the Glenside studios as Martin's guests, and to Brisbane to stay with her sister Lexy.

Next year we are off to London to stay a few weeks with her other sister there.

It has been fun, but right now I'm working in Perth for Armadale Health Services and we are depending on Skype until I get back

A few interesting developments over the weekend regarding Tagara Builders.

Some projects they were contracted to have been secured by other builders. Some projects are still up in the air.

My Mail is they tried to compete with the Big Boys (Built Environs, H&Y, Bulderstones) they crushed them. Writing was on the wall 2 years ago.....

couple of contractors are owed upwards of $50,000 and had work coming up with them as well.
