I think this is less in terms of the result, but in regards to personnel. We got hit pretty hard, as did Lockleys, I think mid way during the third quarter, result decided, both coaches probably would've walked up to each other & said "let's go have a beer".

Sorry I didn't hang around, Mrs MBK threw out the comment "you hang around longer when you don't play" & the tone was less than receptive!

I enjoy the div 6 love in, in reality I give love, so that somebody gives me a bit back to stroke my ego! ;) 8)

I catch your drift, sometimes I'll be umpiring and the game is dead and buried and just going trough the motions which makes the time drag on further, I look around and the body language between both sides is deflated, it would be good if both teams could just shake hands and say "that's it, we're done, result achieved and we'd rather not have any injuries".
Floggings in footy are dead boring no matter what side you're on.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a captains agreement between gentleman to just call it a day in the final quarter. Especially in the B Grade.

Does open it up for abuse RE percentage and the like though...

Not really, it would work the other way, teams would be content with a 20 goal win rather than 55 goals.

Very true, and equally as boring for coaches and supporters as well.

I'm a bit the opposite. Floggings are part of football, I still have a half a side that didn't win a game 2 seasons a go and copped our fair share. I can see they enjoy winning by plenty when we are lucky enough to do so.

I agree with Arch.
You can achieve stuff in floggings, as much as you can in close games.
The players just need to be motivated and reminded the importance of each minute of a season as you build.

Yeah but that's what I am saying.

If a team decides to call a game short and only win by 25 goals, the next team to play that struggling side will have an advantage because they can decide to put them to the sword and win by 45 goals. If spots in the finals came down to percentage a team could make it or not based on their decision to apply mercy or not.

if im ever a coach and we are up or down by 20 goals ill ask the other coach if he wants to agree to finish the game at that point of time if we are top or bottom i dont wanna risk players in lob sided games of getting a injury they didnt need to get

That's my take on it.

I was umpiring an Under 17's game a few years back where the mercy rule had kicked in early and one team lent the other team some players and it continued to be a schlacking. Early in the last quarter one player tackled another player who was on the same team for a laugh, at that stage I put my hands in the air and called the game off, no one seemed to mind too much.

I reckon we blew the siren 90 seconds early against CU the other week because a player was down hurt and needed attention and would have taken up the rest of the time anyway, so common sense prevailed and we just ended it, but we were 100 points up at half time, how disrespectful would it have been had I walked over to them and asked if they wanted to wrap it up then cos it was a foregone conclusion? Blow outs are part of footy, play until the final siren

I don't think anyone is suggesting teams meet up at half time and call it quits.

But into time on in the last quarter? Meh, call it a day.

not sure why there were so many injuries yesterday..we had no bench as well by half time pretty much..how is the lad with the badly broken ankle?

Cheers, very annoying trip back home listening to the clowns though!
Lad who broke his leg won't play again, hanging up the boots - impact too much on work and family etc.. He was understandably very upset last night, and I'm gutted as he would just about be leading the B grade B&F :(

Now no more friendly discussion we may upset Carey

our guy stretchered off in the B grade: "complete tear of my ACL, partial tear of medial ligament and medial meniscus damage"

thats our fourth ACL plus a PCL for the year.. :(

Poor bloke! That's terrible! :(

How many of those injuries have occurred at Lockleys? A lot of these injuries came from quite innocuous incidents, it's a shame how easily (sometimes) a person can seriously harm themselves playing footy.

It's very sad for these fellas as I'm sure they only play for the love of the game and their clubs best interest.
Shame there are no credit points from the SAAFL for true heroes that go unrecognised for their commitment to their clubs over many years.
Yet one fruit loop can taint a whole club and screw up their developement.
All the best to those seriously injured and unable to work and pay their bills for a while.
That's real life SAAFL.
