Back to the topic, he is a good player but obviously his sacking hasn't impacted on South. Good to see.

Yeah, it was interesting to see that they went pretty well without him...

I thought young Tyson Brown came in and played well while perhaps the exciting Emmanuel Irra can cement that spot as the running half back flanker now that Murphy is gone...

Tyson Brown has had a pretty bloody good year in the 2's and been pushing for selection largely every week. Now he's taken his chance I can't see him dropping out any time soon if he keeps up his current form.

I seem to remember him debuting 2 or 3 years ago now, but then has languished in the twos over the last season or two...

Good that he has persisted and hung around, could have easily walked to local footy for more money and less comittment...

Debuted in 2011, with 2013 being the only other year he's played seniors. Has had a few bad injuries along the way. Cant question his committment.

SOUTH Adelaide Football Club co-captain Nick Murphy will stand trial next month over an alleged rape in North Adelaide about nine months ago.

The halfback-midfielder appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court yesterday to face a single count of engaging in sexual intercourse with a person without consent.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, but he was ordered to stand trial over the allegation, allowing for his identity to be published.

My disgust in the Advertiser grows by the day.....perhaps the word FORMER may have been used to begin that eyecatching sensationlist headline.

Says former in the paper this morning and does make it quite clear that the club terminated his services. In guess the above post must have come from an earlier online edition.

Is there grounds to sue the newspaper for misrepresentation? You would assume that South Adelaide FC, being a member of the state's national league would have some standing in the public domain and could argue that the newspaper's failure to include "Former" in its headline is detrimental to the clubs public image.
I'm assuming B&W's post is just confirming another headline that fails to use "Former"

It would be on pretty thin ground. A waste of money.
They would argue that he was captain at the time of the alleged incident.
They would also argue that the story indicated the measures South had taken.

Best they could hope for is to ring the editor/journalist concerned and voice their displeasure at the way the story was reported. The Editor/Journalist will reply apologies Mr SAFC Chairman it won't happen again.....

So they sack a guy over an alledged incident, nothing has been proven. Absolute disgrace from South Adelaide if thats the case
Or is there more to the sacking?

Not sure if you read the first page

The Executive of the South Adelaide Football Club convened an extra ordinary meeting on Tuesday night (16th June 2015) to be briefed on circumstances that had recently come to light regarding co-captain Nick Murphy’s failure to meet his obligations to the club and senior coach Brad Gotch.

It is the club’s view that on a number of occasions over a period of time Nick has shown poor judgement and has not met the minimum standards required of the club.

Nick was immediately summoned to a meeting with Chairman Andrew Luckhurst-Smith and Senior Coach Brad Gotch last night whereby his services were terminated with immediate effect.

There will be no further statement by the club.

Wayne Peters
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Probably worth reading properly and waiting until anyone makes silly statements. South certainly haven't.

Would have thought keeping quiet about an allegation until 3 days before appearing in court to defend yourself is a failure to meet certain standards.....
