West Torrens position has been documented via their newsletters published on their website throughout the season, and this from Presidents Report in Annual Report released on Monday:

"Merger talks with any other Club have ceased for the present but the door has been left open in case new offers are put forward.

Our Board has submitted that it:
• is in a stable financial position
• has agreements in place to protect its future at the Henley & Grange Memorial Oval for both the oval and clubrooms
• is in a favourable position due to junior development programs
• has these programs and as a consequence is now experiencing players developed through them progressing to A Grade level
• has sufficient players to fill and be competitive in each grade, senior and junior, each round
• is in a sound position with Women’s A and B grade teams – both also competitive
• has an excellent junior program the envy of most other SACA clubs
• has an excellent zone program the envy of most other SACA clubs
• is in a position to independently manage its future
• does not have any need to merge in the near future
• merging at the present time is not an option the B of M would promote to WTDCC members

The essential needs of any elite Club are
– talent I.D. followed by recruitment and development of the recruits
- income to exceed expenditure (business management)
- volunteers and/or remunerated workers
- obtaining and upkeeping suitable facilities

West Torrens D.C.C. currently has these in position. However we must be ever vigilant to maintain and improve this position."

Well thats that then  :D

WT for me are a stable club and as pointed out meet all the essential needs for an elite club.

I would suggest that not all cubs can match the following (and im not just reffering to Uni):
*is in a stable financial position
*is in a favourable position due to junior development programs
*has these programs and as a consequence is now experiencing players developed through them progressing to A Grade level
*has sufficient players to fill and be competitive in each grade, senior and junior, each round

But they have a coach that has made a lot of enemies within SACA and Premier Cricket. They do not have a club!

Wow, Bulls Forever, you really do hate West Torrens!! God knows what "they do not have a club" even means!!

As for our coach, he is just a very passionate club person. He would do anything to make WT successful. His record as a junior coach is second to none, and his first year as Senior coach was brilliant, taking the A's from 12th to 4th and not far off a GF berth, with a young team we thought needed a few years to develop. Also finished high up in Club Championships.

He does speak his mind to SACA about numerous issues, and although I don't always agree with his views, the majority of the time he is pretty spot on. His desire is for WT to continue to be a powerhouse club in the competition so it is near on impossible for SACA to force a merger involving WT. We are one of only a few clubs that have teams in all comps run by SACA including Women and have one of the best and most successful junior program's of the last ten years, as shown by our A Grade team currently with 7 players Under 21. The future looks very promising.

Hopefully Bulls Forever this makes sense and you can have a bit more un biased view of WT in the future!

Spot on, WT have the best junior set up and program I've seen, along with a Womens set up that is phenominal. Rumbles isn't a SACA arse licker, never has been, never will be. Can't say the same about some other clubs tho.

Southern district to survive on pure geography.
Poor senior results, massive decline and once strong juniors now not so

Uni/Prospect or Port/Prospect would be where my money is.
Uni'so no juniors has to be a worry for them and Port have virtually no juniors - both clubs (poorly performed senior clubs barring Ports fluke premiership) could benefit from Propsects decent junior base (Blackfriars school etc.)
Also interesting to hear West Torrens are sound financial certainly not the common belief around the place

Would not say we are swimming in money, but posted a profit for third year in a row, and have very healthy bank balance again.

Have a large number of very dedicated volunteers who have turned the Club around. Plus the relationship with Henley FC this year was much better, after years of trying they finally let us run our own bar which helped enormously, overall profit from last year to this year was up 400%. If this continues, will just go from strength to strength, so the people involved from both Clubs to sort this out should be commended.

Can't Uni just go into the Adelaide Turf competition? Their football teams don't play in the SANFL.

Get rid of them from the competition, keep everything else the same. As soon as the rule dictating that Uni students had to play for Uni disappeared so did their relevance.

No mergers, no disharmony, no hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of sweeteners required from SACA.

It's a no brainer. Simplest, cheapest option. The other 12 clubs should band together and present a united front.

Well said! Exactly what should happen.

Unfortunately, think Uni have too many wealthy ex players and supporters who would fight this all the way.

Maybe some of the upper echelon of the WTDCC committee should stop approaching other clubs regarding interest in a merger then!, hence the reason why the above statement is worded very losely

Park 10 isn't bad either if Uni want to vacate.....

University need to make some tough decisions. Do they want to exist as a club in their own right, what competition do they want to be apart of?

Fight SACA to remain a part of the Premier Competition, move to Turf (they already have lower grade teams in the competition) or merge with another SACA club.

Also any truth to the rumour that Prospect are going to have their clubrooms demolished as part of stage 2 of the oval redevelopment?

Good to see young Adelaide quick Luke Lavender doing ok for the National Indigenous side vs the National Performance squad - picked up 3/37(9ov) today.

East Torrens lad Ayden McGregor-Baptista injured himself vs the Southern Stars where he had 1/9 off 5, and has struggled with the bat as a result.

Others involved in the series playing for the NPS - Dave Grant, Patrick Page Jnr, Callum Ferguson and I think Travis Head.

Good to see plenty of young SA talent in amongst it..

Adelaide Uni are seeking to have 8 Men's teams this season, must be the biggest club in SA. Also has huge influx of players 18-21 years of age. Why would you want to remove such a club from SACA?

Because they have no one under the age of 18....where do they get their players from? The other Grade clubs!

They get a lot of international students and new arrivals to Australia playing for them which is fantastic but they could fill this role equally well in Adelaide Turf. And they do anyway - four of those teams are in Adelaide Turf already.

The whole point of grade cricket is it is not about running huge clubs with tons of players - that's what Adelaide Turf and the hard wicket competitions are for. Grade Cricket is meant to be the elite cricketers who are trying to play at a higher level.
