Don't think it'll be as catastrophic as Ansett. If they do go, the effect will probably be on par with Compass.

Tiger have also scrapped Adelaide-Avalon and Adelaide-Sydney flights

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/tiger-to- ... 6085941105

It means despite Adelaide being a Tiger 'base', it pretty much only offers flights to Melbourne from Adelaide

As a result of this, Qantas engineers have decided not to strike, while Jetstar and Virgin have put on extra flights to cope with the influx of passengers forced to switch carriers at the last minute

IMO they're gawn. Costs a lot of money having aircraft sitting around doing nothing. SQ will pull the pin on 'em.

Anyone flown "Tiger" in last few years?

I'm thinking of going through them to get to Melbourne in mdi November. I know they don't have a great reputation, well at least didn't a few years back, was just wondering if things have improved these days?

Given they are the cheapest, I realise that as always that we get what we pay for.

Friends flew with them last Friday it was delayed 5 hours so they did not arrive till after 10pm missed their dinner they had booked. They cannot even get a busy Friday arvo flight right, I think still very unreliable.

I have flown with them maybe 8 times in the past 5 years, and I have never had an issue.

I figure it is a get what you pay for scenario. Clearly you wont get as good a service as any of the other carriers, but you shouldnt expect that. That includes timeliness. If you have a tight schedule i wouldnt be flying them, but if its for a weekend away that doesnt hugely matter if you get delayed by an hour, then its worth it.

Personally, i am more than happy to fly with them if they are significantly cheaper, which varies. I have gotten flights for $40 RETURN from melbourne with them before. Even if one gets cancelled and I have to fork out for Qantas one of these days (it hasnt yet for me) ill still end up well in front.

I flew to brisbane earlier this year and went Virgin up there and Tiger back.

One thing you really need to watch for is if you have checked baggage - if you do it will almost never be significantly cheaper to fly with Tiger. You also have to watch your weight for your checked in baggage as they are very strict on that, but then again so is Jetstar.

If any of the other Carriers are within $10 or $20 of Tiger I would definitely recommend flying the others, but if you can get it for half price then Tiger is well worth it imo. So long as you dont expect QANTAS service

Tiger to Melbourne is great, use it for the footy all the time. Its less than an hour flight I dont want drinks, snacks or a TV. You pay for what you get. Id take them anyday over Jetstar though

Their seats are definitely closer together than any other airline, including Jetstar. Im only 6ft, so not especially tall, but you would definitely struggle if you were taller

They were going to charge me $97 because my carry on luggage was 200g over. So I took out a hat, put my belt on and threw my roll on deodorant in the bin.
But no big deal that the women in front if me was 25kg heavier than I was.

It has nothing to do with the weight of the plane and everything to do with a pricing model that catches some people out and makes them pay a ton more than they otherwise would. (They seemed to give me 0.5kg leeway last time)

Charging $8.50 per person per leg as a "processing fee" is similar.

All things that you ahve to be aware of, but arent deal breakers if you can avoid getting stung

Thanks for all the info peeps.

So the main issues are - often delayed (well more than other airlines anyway)...and less leg room than other airlines, but only a problem if you are quite tall (Im only 5'7).

And they dont serve food/snacks - although I generally dont worry about those on airlines anyway.

Pretty much yeah. But it's hard to go wrong when it costs you almost as much for the airport bus

They might be cheaper, but by the time you are delayed for 3 hours, and have 6 beers waiting, the price is the same as the other airlines.

Last Friday, delayed from the 2.55 flight to 6.45. Not much notice really, we just kept getting "delayed" on the departures board. My wife rang them from the Coopers Alehouse in the airport trying to get an answer. Only "it's been delayed". When we got on, the pilot/captain whatever said "every 28 days there is a roster cycle which causes us some issues in the flight schedule".

WELL FIX IT DEAR HENRY!
