Port supporters won't return - those who have 'hung on' will also be gone.
Kids won't follow an SANFL Team now - that opportunity is gone IMHO.

The CEOs made a 'rod for their own backs'.

I hope I'm wrong, I really do.

Fagan was just on MMM. When asked if the crows have been accepted into the SANFL, he talked for about 2 minutes without making any definite statement except he understands the SANFL has a lot of history and that after a while people will realise the crows "have an important role to play." Beyond that it's "yes and no" and "we've only been in it for two years. " No acknowledgement of the lack of crows supporters or the disparity of performance when they have more than 13 afl crows on field, or the lack of atmosphere, or even where or what the aforementioned important role might be.
I sort of hoped there'd have been some acknowledgement of realities and problems. It unfortunately was just political sounding waffle.

You'll never have the mainstream Adelaide media attempting to make the AFC accountable.

They would lose half their audience.

Most of their supporters don't know the SANFL even exists, why would their CEO from NSW know any more?

More people that follow the Crows attend the SANFL than Port Power supporters.

Perhaps he could have brought Jake Parkinson along to give him a few pointers on how to discuss the subject, that guy at least tries to be convincing.

No shit? That's probably because they might follow West, or North, or Norwood, or Sturt, or Glenelg.

Really hit home hard with that one mate.

Fagan was actually born in SA but before the Crows he was working for the Australian Rugby Union.

Yes, makes some good (and probably self-evident to those who disagree with the reserves incursion) points.

“On all measures apart from one the SANFL has more interest in it,” SANFL chief executive Jake Parkinson said recently.

The “one” measure, of course, is attendances.

Parkinson's comment has more spin on it than a ride on the Gravitron. The most critical factor in judging the amount of interest in a sporting team and competition is crowds, and was easily dismissed. Those in the know realise interest in the SANFL is waning.

If the Crows and Power attendances hypothetically halved next season, you can be guaranteed that they (and the AFL) would be up all night panicking that there was less interest in them and the game overall, irrespective of other criteria like TV ratings and website hits.

They wouldn't be worried about the interest levels provided the TV numbers remained the same or increased .. Their concern would be for the loss of matchday revenue for the clubs.
