I thought an end of year Gala Night celebrating the winners of all trophies, awards, recognising life members and incorporating sponsors, volunteers and key club personell would have been the norm. We have an end of year event with "responsible" 4 hour drinks package and it is normally a cracking night not to be missed.

We have even done it in our club but ended up having to put MBK and a very angry little man on a pool table as we ran out of room and they were late. The club made a packet that night as you can also throw in your obligatory silent auction, door prizes, raffles and games.

I thin you'll find the clubs will still do that sort of night, just the actual count is done previous so those sort of nights don't drag on too much. I think it works both ways tbh

Yep that's what we do.

Ok, fair enough. We don't go through and count round by round though. Each grade only gets a couple of minutes as we go through the votes.

I've always liked kilburns set up which is the Sunday after their last season game. Calls for a huge Sunday funday and it gets the boys together for finals. I don't think finals should be included, selflessness wins finals, not blokes thinking about if that are getting in the best.

I think Kilburn has run and won theirs already and the winner was Scott Gailbraith, someone may want to confirm this.

Correct.

Scott Galbraith won by 6 votes over Adam Clutton, and Cameron Williams was third

Does his old man do the voting?

Scott won it but keep an eye on Bruno O;Loughlin in the medal. HUGE chance. By the way easy TIGA there were a few family members around when you won a certain B&F :D

How did u host the event?

Was it even a club event at all?

Or just a quick hour after training the boys sat around after training for few bevvies and that was it?

We had ours on the Saturday night of the last round. We do a round by round count on Powerpoint that is pre-prepared and then the last round is added in. Worked out great as it was very close and even those who prepared the night didn't know the final outcome until the final round envelopes where opened. We then have our Presentation night about 4 weeks later (19th Sept this year) and we always have it at the Lockleys Hotel (got to look after the sponsors).

Has anyone heard of someone being ineligible for a B and F?

Would have to be an internal thing individual to each club.

Was a player brought before the club committee for an off field discretion?

This year we had a guy in our D grade not win the B and F because he didn't pay his fees. Our Footy Director decided it at our medal count and everyone there agreed and respected the decision. Therefore the award went to second place.

No off-field discretions but didn't agree on certain things with the club. Doesn't it sort of take the shine of the award if you win with the second most votes?

These awards are generally called best and fairests

You can see why a club might want to take both criteria into account.

Yeah i know of a div 6 club this year not giving a certain new player to the club his best and fairest instead the runner up received the big award and 3rd runner up got 2nd for what reason i'm not 100% sure why this was done.

I've seen some fair thugs win B&F's before.. reckon the B&F is an out-dated title, should just simply be 'Best Player' but that sounds bit ordinary.
