But it's still following the same pattern as other years and why we are the only club not to have won a Magarey Medal after 1991...other players play a great game here and there to take votes off the best chance to win it

Well done Joel Cross. Great little player who shows remarkable consistency.

I thought Centrals had a good night with both Thomas and Schiller polling probably beyond what most 'experts' tipped.

Surely Jimmy Allan has a future at another club? For a guy who is now considered by Norwood staff to not be good enough to be in their best 21 he had a remarkable Magarey count.

In terms of an Eagles player going close but just failing to get across the line..........I think the main issue is that we often have even team performances rather than just relying on one guy to win the match week after week. Even this year with Rowntree coming runner up, I honestly don't recall seeing a match this year and thinking that he dominated. The other thing that works against us over the years is that when we win we never demolish the opposition. Quite often the winning margin is only around 20 points and there are periods in the match where the opposition has matched us. As a result, we often do not get the full 3-2-1 votes so we miss out a bit there.

Did the umpires get it right this year though? For the most part I think so. Only a couple of odd voting decisions such as Irra apparently getting 27 possessions and kicking 3 goals in a winning match for South late in the year but not getting a single vote!!

Well done to Joel Cross, great effort. Good to hear for the Panthers he sounds settled here now.

Well done to Rowntree as the runner-up, Channel 7 for a reasonable coverage in an allotted hour, and congratulations to the inductees into the Hall of Fame, especially Brett James.

Good observation MrF, seems to have been our way since at least the early 2000's.

Spelly, how many times has an Eagles player been 2nd or 3rd over the last 25 years? Pyman, Cica, Colville. McKenzie?
