Wonderful and deserved result for a fantastic footballer and even better young man. Well done Joel, loyalty has its own rewards and Joel's status of dual Magarey Medal winner assures his Legend status at our football club and indeed the SANFL competition.

Have been attending South games for the past 17 years and in this time Crossy is the best player I have seen play for the club.

Joel is a champion for the South Adelaide Football Club and really took his game to another level this year.

I expect him to win his 2nd Best and Fairest this year also.

The other thing that works against us over the years is that when we win we never demolish the opposition. Quite often the winning margin is only around 20 points and there are periods in the match where the opposition has matched us. As a result, we often do not get the full 3-2-1 votes so we miss out a bit there.

Good observation MrF, seems to have been our way since at least the early 2000's.

Spelly, how many times has an Eagles player been 2nd or 3rd over the last 25 years? Pyman, Cica, Colville. McKenzie?

1993 - Shayne Breuer (eq 2nd)
1996 - Andrew Payze (eq 3rd)
1999 - Rhett Biglands (eq 3rd)
Justin Cicolella (eq 3rd)
2000 - Gavin Colville (2nd)
2002 - Justin Cicolella (3rd)

2004 - Gavin Colville (eq 2nd)

Well done Cross, umps got it right!
Rowntree a very commendable second.
North's total of 11 votes sums up their year!

11 votes for a team in a whole year. That's rather incredible. Even Fitzroy in 1996 polled 20 in the Brownlow.

I think there were a couple of times during Sturt's golden era where 2nd, 3rd and 4th were all Sturt blokes and the winner was from another club. One of Ebert's Magareys was won by a margin of one or two votes from (I think) Bagshaw, who just finished clear of Davies just ahead of Graham. I think you mix the three names up and you get the also rans for another Magarey finish.
Obviously took votes off one another, you could arguably claim that Ebert would've won the honour a couple of times less had Sturt not been so full of champions at that time.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
