I reckon both sides were comfortably 10 goal better sides than Houghton and 15 better than us.

Tis still a huge gap me thinks.

Geez Id hate to see D7 then.

It's div 7 for a reason Dutchy. The gap between 6 and 7 is a fair gap. It's more do you bottom tier players where the difference lies.

I've personally seen div 7 players go and play div 1 and higher country grades as well.
you've gota keep on keep'n on .........

Yesterday's game wasn't a true indication of the skill level of those 2 sides Dutchy, both made a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes all game, their skills are far better than what was show cased yesterday

Gee I thought the standard was pretty good. Bit scratchy early with nerves. You would find some SFL games with a lower standard than that Dutchy.

As I've mentioned in the past a lot, and as carey mentioned above, the biggest difference between the divisions is not as much about the skill level - I've watched just as many D3, D4 and D5 players burn the ball as I did on the weekend, but more about the ability and talent of the bottom say, 20% of the team. We would have 10 guys in our A Grade that wouldn't make either sides team, but 5 that would be in their top 10. If that makes sense.

Having said all of that I couldn't believe a couple of the faces I recognised playing for Lockleys that made their A grade GF side - some of them struggled to get a kick in their 2013 B grade GF side...

Garner.

Was very solid, and tackled like a machine, but I thought Twiggy turned it for them.

Yeah, Twiggy's a bit of a quiet achiever, has a strong grab and a decent motor, pretty accurate in front of the sticks too.

And they'd both go alright in D6 too. The SFL, for all it's inequality, is still a good standard of football. The very top end is D3 maybe D2, the middle D4, then slides down to be D5/D6 at the bottom.

The only one that would really struggle is Aldinga.

Well it's not like teams haven't swapped back and forth before, or played competitive trials.

Edwardstown were D3 (I think) when they swapped over to the SFL and have played regular finals but haven't gotten near winning it to the best of my knowledge.

That's one game. I'll take a season of results as a better sample size...

It seems Aldinga might've saved up a couple of times to try and sneak a win against their fellow battlers as they lost quite a few games by 30 goals. Whereas Marion lost to the top sides by about 100pts.

Do you think a div 6 team could beat a div2R team?

my opinions on this debate are widely documented.

But yes, I do, and I'd be pretty confident they would as well.

CLG 2013, BOS 2014, Smithfield 2015 would all beat Walkerville, Broadies or Gepps Reserves pretty handily.

congratulations to the SFC..an awesome 2 years going back to back..such a huge turn around from 3 years ago and their entire club should be very proud of what they are creating..we thought we may have the legs in the last quarter but it wasnt to be..the experience of the smithfield lads shone through when needed most..our guys were cooked but gave their all..the game did have a lot of turnovers from both sides but i think that was the nerves and heat playing its role..both teams were also inaccurate at times including #5 from SFC who missed some sitters in front of goal..our 3.8 third quarter really needed to be 8.3 as we used up a lot of energy creating inside 50's..chances must be taken when given..we will lick our wounds and regroup to continue our rivalry with SFC and to meet all the "new" teams in division 5..

thumbs up to HT who is destined to be a very good A grade coach one day..he enjoyed a very relaxing GF win as the TOS boys didnt give the farmers a sniff all day..well done benny!

commiserations to zartan who like myself felt the sting of losing but you did some incredible things with your group this year and perhaps the win in the preliminary took to much out of them?

carey: you were right mate..it was SFC all the way but not the length of the straight, we did make them work for it a bit.. :)

morell: good perception..twig was a huge factor in the second half and we didnt have anyone to go with his size and speed as we ran out of gas..he is a very dangerous player when "on" and a very accurate kick at goal but i thought garner was the best over the 4 quarters..

so thats it for another year..i have really enjoyed the comraderie between the coaches in this grade, its been fantastic, but i wont miss all the drives out main north road every second week!

whilst they are not in this grade i think the incredible turn around at MPFC and KFC to go from being on their knees and then to get flags within 12 months are the best stories to come out of the saafl in 2015..well done to those clubs..
