Westminster OS went back to back flags in 6 & 5 in 2014, BOS finished top in Div 5 2015 after winning div 6 last year.

I doubt either of these teams went out & significantly increased payments if at all.

But feel free to keep embarrassing yourself on here ;)

The Old Scholar clubs do have a significant advantage under the points system however.

But a distinct disadvantage of no juniors and the kids at the school already being linked to a junior club.. It balances out

Understand and agree, but I think Trinity would cop that far worse with the strong, nearby Gawler Clubs and League relative to SPOC, PAOC, ROCS etc.

It cuts both ways there too, I know Mallala juniors get pillaged by Trinity and Xavier, they are a significantly better team during school holidays.

I'm assuming that these kids would be zero points to either Trinity or Mallala when they hit juniors.

You're the one that throws fables out there with no merit at all, I'll give you the details of the next AGM (usually around November), we can attend together, I'll even pay for your 2016 membership and you can peruse the annual financial report that is compiled by the treasurer who is a registered accounted and then audited by an independent accountant.

If the members of the Smithfield Sports & Social Club were to find out that the money they spend over the bar and towards membership was paying for people to play for the club, there would be an uproar.

The SS&SC comprise of about 6 netball sides, 3 to 4 cricket sides, many dart teams along with 8 ball teams all of whom would be demanding hand outs if football was receiving any more than best player awards.

Everything is transparent, 80% of the players there played juniors out there and the rest are mates with them, unless the coach is dipping into his own pocket out of his coaching contract to which I'd be thinking it's around $5K max, then I can categorically say that the Smithfield Football Club does not pay their players, it costs them enough for their day to day bills of keeping their club alive.

I would think like a lot clubs there would be a few generous supporters, sponsors etc etc who keep the players happy. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

And as Lightning was saying a lot of these blokes have a very strong brotherhood and are playing at Smithies because of there outside interests rather than being paid to play

Even with sponsors and the like I don't think this Smithfield side would on much money.

Having been the previous Treasurer and assisting the new Treasurer last year I can say LM is correct in his post, the only thing I don't know is the current payment to the coaches.

As for Marbles , who knows

no one really cares if anyones paying anyone. the point of the discussion is will Smithfield or locleys or anyone have to recruit a possible 4 or 5 marquee (paid) recruits to jump from a div 6 granny to a div 5 granny in one year.

marbles, you've been around Div 1 too long. Believe it or not, there are clubs in other divisions who can have success without paying. Sponsorship dollars aren't flush out north (believe it or not), and lots of guys still play for clubs they've played at as juniors, for nothing.

Just because they've got some talent, it doesn't make them mercenaries.

Garner was out of work and the Smaithfield coach could get him employment. He also coached him prior at Gumeraca and he had a heap of mates there. Garner isn't a money chaser. And a very good player

A few more ex smithfield players that left the club to go chase money, might be very interested in coming back to finish their footy careers where they started.

Webber: Elizabeth. Why would they throw money at him when they have Mathews, Moss, Lane and Ashby as goal scoring avenues, if anything Webber clogged up the forward line by being a specialist full forward, he's good at his work but needs to play in a team that suits having a 1 out full forward, which doesn't suit Smithfield's style or game plan.
He went to Elizabeth and had instant success.

Judging by what I seen on FB Monday and Tuesday I think you could be on the money, some good former players who are still quite young joined in the festivities.

I'd imagine Smithfield would need to recruit a few more players to be competitive in div 5, at a guess they'd be a middle of the rung team at best, their lines look pretty strong though looking at the team line up sheets.
If they could get Chris James and Michael Taylor back they'd be looking a fair bit stronger. luring Adam Varcoe back home would be very handy too.
