Two strikes now

Postby Rik E Boy » Wed Oct 28, 2015 1:08 pm

Two strikes and named and shamed. Not before time. Once is a mistake, getting another free swing was always a problem. Then you have certain clubs who may or may not have injunctions who are adept at sweeping stuff under the rug but no club could claim to be clean and the old rule has a lot to answer for in this regard IMO.

What happens if a player is already on 2 strikes? Does the slate get swept clean, or is he named? About time they tightened this up.

I don't think you could name the blokes already on 2.

I'm not for naming and shaming, I don't see that as productive.

I think first strike 50% of your annual salary, club gets told and counselling etc commences.

Second strike is at the clubs discretion if you are terminated or not.

Buddy no, Tuck yes. If you don't get busted no naming and shaming. **** up once, pull your head, no need for naming and shaming. Education the key, i.e. prevention but some types don't listen so well.

And if your profile is big enough, all will be swept under the carpet.

I call bullshit. There will be no naming and shaming on 2, there will just be a lot more knee, ankle injuries and personal leave instances in coming years that have blokes out for 4-6 weeks. As if the AFL want this stuff continually getting in to the public domain.

I support naming and shaming.

The use of illegal drugs (not just sale/supply of them) is a criminal offence; hard to prosecute but an offence nonetheless.

If the AFL was serious about this issue they'd be reporting positive tests to the police. The cops would probably have to rely on the individual admitting to drug use to lay a charge but it would show players that certain standards are required of them to have the privilige of playing AFL footy.

Incorrect.

You can't be charged by the police for having illicit drugs in your system. You can present with drugs in your system, you can admit to using drugs, but that's not a chargeable offence. If you are in possession, that's a different matter. No point the AFL reporting to the police positive tests.
