Exactly. The food isn't the sole consideration when choosing were to eat. The customer service you receive also dictates whether or not you'll go back

Already think quite low of this place. Extremely overrated and pretty terrible compared to the other burger joints about.

But I live just up the road and was starving for a burger this morning.

Roll in, only to be told that it's breakfast menu only until 11am. **** sake, hate places that do this. My biggest regret was not walking out then. Knew it should have been done.

Anyway, order the sausage and egg muffin with a couple hash browns.

What I get is two very average and very small hash browns and a sausage and egg muffin worse than from maccas or HJs.

Nordburger is an absolute sack of shit. 0/10 will never be back.

Our first ever 0/10. Perhaps a touch harsh but the underlying theme of your post is that you're not a fan by all accounts.

I'm back to full time work from tomorrow so that should work out alright.

My theory is that they actually serve the food to you at a table therefore it probably just falls into this threads category....just. If I was reviewing 5 cheeseburgers after a night on the gas I agree - 3 month ban.

Mint on Moseley

Having recently turned 40, the wife and I threw a bit of a shin dig on Friday night at Mint on Moseley. A private function room on the Southern side of Moseley Square in between Mamma Carmela ( which is on the corner opposite the Grand ) and Creme on Jetty. Mint is accessed via a doorway, straight up a flight of stairs into the private function room.

This is all they do, private functions and they do it pretty* well. With a license for up to 100 people ( we had about 65-70 ) the room has an excellent "feel", a bit old / rustic with some fancy shit thrown in, the best asset being the balcony that could easily hold 45-50 people. Being on the Southern side of the square meant the Grand sheltered the cool southerly that was blowing in on Friday night and the balcony looks down over Moseley Square right where the tram terminates. The main room is timber floor boards, has some lounge chairs all along one wall ( built in bench type ) and another smaller area with little tables and small "poof" / stools to sit on. There is also a second smaller room ( about 4m * 4m ) that is seperate from the main room, it's carpeted, little sofa stool style chairs and has a curtain for some privacy. We/Mrs Boon used it as a photo booth, it could also be a nursery for small kids, or a quiet spot for older folks. It's a handy little room.

They have a very good range of food options, all prepared on site in the kitchen. Platters, around $50-60 with around 30-35 pieces per platter range from standard pastries oven food stuff to mini lamb or chicken yiros ( yum! ), mini "slider" style burgers, shaslicks etc etc. Now, I cannot fault any of this. We may have under catered a little, but hey, you win some you lose some in those instances.

There's no tap beers so we subsidized the drinks making beers ( about 6 sorts ), wine ( again, about 6 various red and whites ) and ciders ( again, about 5 types ) all at $5 each. Pretty reasonable we thought and had no complaints. They have a huge range of all drinks with a fully stocked bar.

The food was really good, the bar staff friendly and their service unquestionable. The venue though was the winner. Looking down over Moseley Square, you have a view of the jetty / water from just South of the Jetty to almost the breakwater at Holdfast Shores. While it was cool Friday night we didn't have anyone in a jumper/jacket as noted above it is completely sheltered from the South. If, however, it was a hot Northerly it would blow straight into your face on the balcony. The air con would keep it comfortable with the cafe blinds down on the balcony.

I could highly recommend the venue for an 18th, 21st, Engagement, any party where you don't want the mess at home. The room was $350 for Friday night, $400 for Saturday night and you need to have a total of $1200 minimum spend over the bar ( easy )

I'd rate it 9/10 as a venue to host a stand up / cocktail type function at.

( The * above was for the bar staff wanting $30 to use the microphone when I did my speech. No, it wasn't a deposit.....$30 to use it!!!! I might have gone 9.5/10 if not for this )

When you're paying $350-$400 room hire & dropping a minimum $1200 on food/beverage, $30 for microphone use is ridiculous.
Not the $30, the principle, the fact they try it on is the most offensive part - poor hospitality business.

$30 to use the mic...pleeeez. I think that cost should be included in the hiring of the room

Nice review Boon- I went to the same for a surprise wedding last year.

We did use the spare room as a kids abode, only other issue was the stairwell is extremely steep and enters the room in a pretty busy area (and had me watching like a hawk for unwary kids).

But for a fully adult function it would be magnificent. Boo the Mic fee, but hardly a deal breaker.

Me and the G Fam had dinner at the Cove Tavern last Friday night (Wedding anniversary #11- how the romantic evening changes :) ).

Service- excellent. Greeted immediately, shown to our table. Prompt drink service, didn't wait too long for the meals. Really rated one lad coming out and asking if we wanted the kids meals at the same time as ours. They get it.

Food- Wife had Chicken stuffed with avocado, lad had fish and chips and I had the American Grill. The latter is magnificent- 2 sliders, a half rack of ribs and 4 Buffalo wings with chips. No complaints from all. Salad Bar is good variety (and we fed little miss G from there).

Value- We used the 2 for 1 from the Entertainment book which cut costs a bit, probably slightly on the dear side for a Bistro meal. But when the food is good the price doesnt become such a factor. All up for a Kids Meal (including drink), 2 mains a wine and a beer it clocked in at $49.

Overall- 9 out of 10

I'm quickly losing faith in these scores, pub bistros getting 9/10 doesn't leave much room for an exceptional dining experience, Benny's hot dog joint 10/10, pfft. I'll reserve judgement on Macca's create your own but 8/10...

But you take it for what it is

9/10 for the Cove I can see as I've had a good experience there.
But that is 9/10 for a pub meal not as a fine dining experience

Agreed. Take it for what it's worth.

9/10 at a pub means it's a top quality pub feed. 9/10 at Chianti isn't the same 9/10 as at the Cove.

Same here. I now compare meals to a Michelin reviewed (only reviewed didn't receive a star) pub I once ate at in a back street of London (it was a short walk from the Mile End tube station) earlier this year. Paid over one hundred pounds for the experience but now everything else is shithouse in comparison...
