A and B grades should play it out. If nothing else, it gets you a chance to throw the ball around or send in a few guys up the order that don't often get a hit. Over the course of a season, you might get 5 or 6 games that have a bit of a dead second innings. Of which, only 3 of those are you the fielding team. Suck it up and get on with it.

C grade is for the weak ones who don't really want to play. They also finish at 5:30 for the same reason.

Anyway. the second innings dead time is only boring when one of the two sides is playing dumb cricket. Its a free hit at some bonus points. Nothing worse when there's 20 overs to go and a side sends out the usual wet blanket top three and finish at 2/35. Much better off for both sides being 5/90.

Why would you want to call it early. We all want to play cricket!
Second innings can be a blessing for a bloke fired out for nought in the first!
We, touch wood, haven't been rained or heated out yet. And when we do watch for the whingers.
Second innings points do make a difference in determining deserved finalists.

Getting rid of bonus points for the second innings can make those second innings more interesting.

Teams figure that if they're going to play them then they may as well put the outright points on the line. Teams will look to declare, set targets, try to bowl teams out as they seek quick runs. Much more interesting if the game is alive and on the line.

Also means that if a team chases down a score on first innings they may choose to declare straight away rather than bat on. Or if they bat on they will look to score quickly rather than just batting out time. The onus comes on the skippers to progress the game.

Sometimes there may not be time left in the game of course which is why the 5pm rule is sensible.

Generated an interesting discussion point if nothing else.. My point being I don't like walking out to field at 5:20 for 11 overs when the game is over. Its just my opinion, each to there own though, if you enjoy playing cricket with no result being able to be achieved then I applaud you and your passion, its good for the game I guess. I'll remember that when opposition clubs whinge if we send them back out in the field in Gawler at 5:30 to bowl 7 overs at us

Pooraka v PAOC this weekend should be a good battle for top spot, with Goodwood v Walkerville sitting 3rd and 4th trying to cement a spot in the 4.

A2s, 1&2 are undefeated, the rest of the comp have about 1-1.5 wins between their position on the ladder.

Important couple of matches leading into Christmas break. Wins before Xmas are gold.

Brings clubs closer together, good to have a bit of a laugh as you experiment with the order and use the bowlers that hardly bowl.

Opening bat of the side batting first looked like a gun. I thought Mawsons played in a pretty low grade? This guy certainly didn't look a low grade player, Absolutly smoking the ball through cover time after time.

Mawson Lakes A-grade were playing Hectorville's B-grade in the Div2 comp, could have been part of the reason said player appeared to be doing it comfortably.
Also interesting to see some of the other miss-matched divisions, eg: Glenunga's A's are up against Goodwood's 3rds and PAOC's 4ths.

Just an idea in regards to the T20 comp. At 5.10pm we had 7 blokes, the opposition at 5.20pm had 9. Players came in patches throughout the match.
Instead of this comp dragging out over 3 Tuesdays, with blokes struggling to get there on time(especially before Xmas), a Sunday Round Robin type format.
The same 3 teams, 3 umpires. All teams play each other, umpires rotate each game.
Start at 9am. Probably looking at a 7pm finish if all games go the length. Why it would be a reasonably long day, at least it's done and dusted for 2 teams and the top team moves on. It also gives teams the chance to have an increased squad for those that might be able to play 1 game.
Tuesdays are getting increasingly hard, no atmosphere, availability will always be an issue.

We played in the Div 1 T20's a few years back. I think we got past 50 once.

Reynella had a day out yesterday with 4 wins for the 4 sides.
Great win by the a's at para hills. B's chased down 325 ending up with 366. Felt sorry for the unley boys. Fielded all day in the heat and would have rightly thought they would defend their first innings total.
C's had an easy win along with the l o's.
