Not entirely sure, but the ABC twitter feed is a good one to follow for up to date information.

Any idea how the fire(s) started?

Allegedly started through someone reaping lentils, which is always a problem, let alone on a day like today.
If true, being a declared fire ban day, not sure about things like criminal charges, civil suits or his own insurance.

Have heard the same, but just don't believe it. Nobody would be stupid enough to be on machinery on a day like today. :axe:

No, you'd think not, especially given the increased focus on these things over the last few years, and if farmers want to self-regulate rather than having written it as law.
On the Yorke Peninsula over the last few years lentil reaping has created problems with headers catching fire due to the lentil dust, and other times numerous spot fires in the same paddock from what's thrown out the back, let alone the usual problem of striking rocks, and these have been on normal reaping days.

Not to mention the repeated warnings to not operate machinery today.

**** me! Fairly sure lentil dust is highly flammable and some blokes avoid growing them due the fire risk.

I have been able to ring around and have been informed that they fled in time and are safe somewhere in Gawler.

My grandparents lost everything they've worked today, truly devastating.

Now I'm just plain outraged if this is found to be the cause. In the modern world of Farming there is simply no need to be working on a day like today. It can either wait until the next day or at night under different weather conditions
