A bit of a shuffle on AA.
Jane Reilly basically booted from the studio since she announced she was retiring.

Aiston gone to weekends - thank God for that, the most annoying panel operator I've ever heard.

Now it's Wills and Penberthy and its going downhill at a rapid rate from my limited listening.

Sports show back to 3hrs from 4

The one positive is they aren't covering the tests.....seriously I don't think anyone listened to them and surely like me they got sick of the ads at every opportunity.

JR basically drives around going to "stories" until she leaves at Xmas.
I was outside this morning and chucked the radio on. Heard Aiston and it went straight back off. Can't stand the bloke.
Morning show is terrible now. Both way too dry for a drive show.
I reckon sports show will go back to 4 hours in footy season.
Nothing beats ABC for cricket commentary

listened to much of the strikers game on the radio the other night - was extremely frustrating now many ads they had. and they seemed to take literally the full time between overs, so there was no opportunity for the commentators to provide context, they were just calling ball by ball and then going for an ad. needs to be every second over, or even just a 15 second ad

15 mins in to Rowey and Bicks returning and that's it for me. I wont tune in until a new crew is in.

No quality or integrity and such a narrow sport focus.

You have it 15mins more than I.

I briefly heard the summer show and they do a better job than Bicks and Rowey

Would never happen but would love to see what Rowey and Bicks would do if all their callers etc wanted to talk about one topic that wasn't of the hosts choice e.g. People ring up and talk about say... Toby Price's great win in the Dakar rally. Would they give them the time of day or would they cut them off, have their own discussion about the sport they want to talk about (cricket or footy) and then call for listeners to ring up about it?

The summer crew are much better. I wished people realised how powerful they could be by switching off from inept presenters and watch the bean counters make the decisions after their commercial value falls when they don't rate but like a lot of other things in society we're just so apathetic to it all.

The 5AA sports show demonstrates what happens to the quality of a product in a market with no competition. Such a pity the SEN experiment didn't work a few years back.

Also shows in hindsight how good KG and Cornsey were.

I think perhaps the summer guys should start from November through to end of January

Run the Footy show from Feb through.

There was one interview the summer guys did with an Adelaide Bite player and I just thought Rowey and Bicks would never allow it to get that long and it would sound so scripted, whereas the summer guys were able to listen to his answers and pick up certain points for other questions.

Well it can happen because it's not ratings time so the Summer crew have probably got more freedom to extend interviews and take discussions where they want to go.

FYI It appears that ratings starts from the mid week of January and go through to the first week of December. So anytime for 6th of Dec to say 15th or 16th of Jan Radio management aren't really caring about ratings and thus what the Summer crew talk about. Below is a link to the list of last year's survey. 5AA certainly rely on their football during the winter months.

Yeah I knew it was cos of the rating periods, however I found the summer crew much better listening from what I heard, admittedly it wasn't a lot.

Good call. Makes you realise that 5AA's sports show has fallen a long, long way, especially if you consider pre-Cornes (1994 IIRC) when the show was hosted by KG and Hooksey.
