Mennie Richardson worrall still a handy pace attack though.

I'm glad they seem to have identified bowlers for NZ conditions. Hope Sayers gets a crack but I don't reckon they pick him over Siddle or bird (assuming hazelwood and pattinson are auto selections, which I think they are)

Excellent news. They've picked the right blokes.

Read an article on cricket.com.au this morning the Bird and Doug Bollinger (would you believe it) were vying for spots. Bollinger are you f**king kidding me. Anyway great to see Sayers picked.

Sayers 2015-16, 4 Shield games 16 wickets @ 25.8
Bollinger 2015-16, 3 Shield games 15 wickets @ 18.7

Reckon I might have gone for the Leftie given he has better figures this 1st class season and offers variation to the right armers in Patterson, Hazelwood, Bird and marsh.

Just saying

These players should have been picked against England for the same reason. Pity that it takes an Ashes loss for the selection panel to understand that control and lateral movement are as important as pace when it comes to winning matches.

Hazelwood is a great example of that.

Reckon you need one with genuine pace still, but Starc and Pattinson fill those roles

I don't think Hazelwood actually achieves much swing and that's one of the reasons why we lost the Ashes.

He gets it to go off the seam though, and has good control.

Can't agree with the last bit. He did well against the West Indies rabble and NZ in a night test, but went missing against England.

3rd most wickets in 2015 behind ashwin and broad, 51 @ 23.35

15 test career, 61 wickets @24.54

20 wickets @ 16.1 in 5 matches against WI
16 wickets at 25.75 in 4 matches against England.
13 wickets @ 31.6 in 3 matches against NZ
12 wickets @29.3 in 3 matches against India

Obviously his figures are skewed a bit because of the 5 tests against WI, but it's hardly going missing against england.

He too a few wickets in England but generally bowled poorly and bled runs in those vital matches in Birmingham and Nottingham.

I think he needs an aggressive left armer bowling from the other end for him to be more effective.

I think he was a better bowler once he was unshackled from being the hold the end up stock bowler. When he was bowling with the 2 Mitch's he was expected to be the guy who bowled line & length whilst they sprayed them & often released pressure. To me he struggled with that restriction & showed he wasn't really suited to that role. A guy like Siddle in the side opens things up for him to be more attacking & play what seems a more natural role for him

I think he's more suited to a McGrath type role with Starc firing every ball in around the ribs, they'll chance their eye on Hazelwood and if he's patient he'll cash in.

So I think hazelwood and Pattinson are auto selections, who gets first crack at the 3rd seamer role?

Reckon they go with Siddle

It will be Siddle but I do think Bird and Sayers would relish in the NZ conditions and pitches.
