Pretty sure Kane Williamson would be in their greatest team even if he were to retire today.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

nah, i am always grumpy! granted his short foirm record is great but his test record isnt exceptional, its a bit like wg grace, check his average out, hardly awe inspiring

Wow. You might want to push past the stats to find out why Grace was so awe-inspiring. Victor Trumper was probably a rubbish player as well.[/quote]

yes i pushed past the stats and found out that wg was a pompous twat, is that what you meant? ;)

Different game in Grace's era. His record might not compare to players more recent than himself, but would be far more interested in seeing how his numbers at his peak compared to his contemporaries.

Siddle ruled out of the 2nd test - appears Pattinson will be recalled, and Bird will retain his place over Sayers despite a very ordinary 1st test showing.

Would have like to see Sayers have a crack at it. But I think they are giving Bird another run and not cast him aside after one bad test. Thats probably fair enough to be honest.

Yeah would have been pretty harsh to cast aside bird after 1 test.

When is our next shield game? Will sayers be back in time?

Sounds like the pitch for this Test will have something in it for the bowlers. The pitch in the first Test was excellent, good for the bowlers day one, good for the batsmen days two and three and was starting to misbehave day four. Just about the ideal Test pitch. Please take note Australian groundsmen.

I'm hearing more and more rumours that Australia may experiment with 4x day test matches in the near future.. potentially combined with day/night tests..

Thought process behind it is sides would bat far more aggressively and score at quicker rates, and would see more timed declarations... Apparently higher run rates equates to greater crowds.

I'd sooner see timeless tests like they were going to do for the World Cup Test tournament.

One of the thought processes with this is that they will make the Tests 4 days, but lengthen each day's play. So there's no actual loss of playing time.

They don't need to shorten tests, they just need to put a bit of life into the pitches

I could deal with it provided we don't lose the allocated 450 overs in a test match.

I reckon longer days would have a pretty big effect and would be another advantage to the batting sides with bowlers tiring late on each day pretty dramatically. All rounders and spinners would become absolute golden and even a 6th part time bowler would hold huge value.
