*edit - sorry, apparently Murphy did actually play for Carlton this year and is still a required player.

am really not a fan of Murphy as Carlton captain (Malthouse's love child), but is there anyone better who could have a great 'tex walker' type reign, before Cripps becomes long time Carlton captain in 2-3 years

Cripps as captain may be the only way to keep him from going home. Personally I think he's too young to have that burden now so I'm happy if Murph is captain again.

I would have loved to see Simmo get it when Murph was put in as he was the logical choice IMO. I really don't know who is the logical successor to Murph (say next year) and I suppose that's a major blight on our list. Thanks Mick!

No, I don't think Freo or WCE will make him captain. To keep him, we will have to show signs of improvement. The kid is very young and has at least 10 years ahead of him. At the end of say 2018/19, if we're not looking like playing finals, then he will rightly be looking to go home/elsewhere for some success.

The way the AFL is today, it's very easy for teams like us to develop players only for them to leave when they get to their early to mid 20's. Teams up the top can just cherry pick players at will. Good luck to them.

Wont be going anywhere for 2 years you mean [emoji12]

On a serious note I dont think he'll leave. Melbourne based teams have been good in recent years of keeping players in Melbourne.

Whilst we are all rubbishing Carlton which is fun to do, they are clearly starting from a clean out. Moved a few players on for some good picks and got some kids. Will be a tough year of course but I think they will turn it around this time.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

Marc Murphy reappointed captain.

Wrong decision I think........Kade Simpson should have got it for 1 year before someone younger takes over.
Tom Bell* looks the obvious choice to take over next year.

Either way it's gonna be a long year........yet again.

* make that Patrick Cripps

Murphy's not a natural leader and any effort he puts in to this detracts from his footy ability.
He seemed to stall a bit with the captaincy burden.
I was hoping he'd relinquish the captaincy to concentrate on taking the next step of being an A grader........hell we need at least one!!

Anyone watch the Carlton show "The Journey" last night on Fox? Thought it was quite impressive, in particular Bolton. I believe it is now available online, worth a look for anyone interested in AFL.
