SA 8/296 and I've got to say I'm pretty happy to the position we've been able to get to considering 4 of the top 6 made 16 runs between them!

Both him and Valente got out to Maddinson though!
No one should get out to him, proper terrible

Given maddinson is bowling on day 1 and their spinner bowled 20 overs when they have a good pace attack, would it be fair to say it will take a bit of turn?

All out 298.. only 4x players made double figures - Weatherald (58), Lehmann (122), Carey (48) and Valente (43).

That Nair looks pretty handy for an off spinner.. has a doosra and got that turning a bit, but appeared to vary his pace quite a bit - couldn't really see much in the wicket - but to be fair I'm not concentrating that hard lol... guess we will see how Andrews goes.

Looks a good wicket - ground seems reasonable size and outfield might be a fraction on the slow side... Not sure 300 is a decent score.

A good score for South Australia though.

Read an article about him the other day. Went from grade cricket to the shield team in the space of 3 months or something.

It does seem they are giving more opportunities to South Australians which is a good thing. Good form at lower level has seen Raphael, Carey, Weatherald and Lehmann get given games and all have shown they are capable (Lehmann especially so). There was criticism there was too much of a gap between Grade and State, but if these players can come straight in and get to 50 then perhaps it is more about giving opportunities to players in form than otherwise.

Unfortunately at the top end, our only A grade batsman is injured and those you'd expect to consistently contribute have horribly under performed. Ludeman and Cooper have already been shown the door and Cosgrove can't be far behind. Head also has been disappointing in this form of the game and everyone seems to just be waiting for him to become good, but perhaps he lacks the application to make it in the purest form of the game? He shouldn't be captain and should concentrate on doubling his season average of 23.

The bowling stocks seem solid. Again, strong performers at Grade level have been able to come in and play a role.

Realistically, the Redbacks have probably had a better season than I expected, but still the same problem of not having enough batsman share the load. They also miss Ferguson, Sayers and Richardson - although State sides should expect to lose their top few players and have cover below.

Difference his Travis is also picked on his batting ability not just captaining......

Played for Australia this summer, Signed for Yorkshire for all formats for half a season and is still only 22 years old. It will come.

Has Head done enough this year to keep his spot in the team on batting alone? Picked for australia in a T20 game and signing for Yorkshire is irrelevant to anything.

Is he doing enough to warrant his selection? No

What's he like as a spinner? Bowled a fair bit of it when Australia A went to India last year.

Contrasting fortunes for all 3 teams winning the toss and electing to bowl / field in this round of shield games I'd say.

Bowled an over before tea. Turn and bounce. Didn't expect it, that's all.

Bowled a medium pacers length and got cut to deep square four times in the over. Knew what he was doing though.
