Glenelg will be in trouble if they decide to campaign and rattle the tins and no-ones come to their aid. Impossible to judge how much support there is for Glenelg's position based on an internet forum.

Until then, it's all speculative, and the club needs to be left to get on with its business.

I remember 1985, a time when Glenelg did 'bag their own'. ;)

Seemed to coincide with success. Unlock the wives!

In all seriousness, I'm in the same boat as MT, hated the decision of Yes to the AFL ressies, but hated the process MUCH more.

Realising the situation they are in now I find myself possibly willing to rejoin, but like to hear what the club is putting into place to help itself.

Forgive me Bays fans for what I'm about to say.
I think the current circumstances validates your voices of opposition to the reserves.
You basically said, back when Glenelg (and other sides) ignored their members, that you would not support the club while reserves are in.
Now Glenelg is on its knees
Now's the time to strike.
Tell them, reserves out, or nothing goes in the can when it gets rattled. I'm personally happy to take out a Glenelg membership to save them. But they need to be seen to be doing the right thing. Now's the time they'll listen, they have to now. Don't help them until they apologise for not listening to their members and get active about removing the two cancers from the league.
Easy to say when it's not my club, but observing as an outsider possibly makes it easier to see.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

The reserves debate is just a side issue for the reason that Glenelg finds itself in this mess.
An ultimatum such as that will not be the cause that brings people back to the Bays.

It's also unlikely the Bay chiefs will be wanting to spend time lobbying the other clubs when they have such pressing matters internally.

In the current state the SANFL is in, I'm not sure the passion exists for supporters to save a side that's in such deep shit. And that is wholly to do with the reserves. You are in effect saying that lack of passion is a side issue here. But I think it's just as relevant as financial mismanagement. We are talking about a footy club after all.

Now what's that thing they say about making a bed?
My sympathies are with the Bay's supporters, but with all 6 compliant clubs sticking their fingers in their ears because they reckon they've gotten away with it, I dare say this now qualifies as good a chance as any to get one of them to listen.

I did not renew my membership for that exact reason of the reserves coming in and noboby followed me up either as why I hadn't renewed .
The league is now nothing more than a feeder comp for the AFL and the two sides here in Adelaide who donot take it seriously.

Have seen 1st hand the debacle in the VFL ask a Preston Bullants supporter who they support now whoops Sorry Northern Blues. They have next to nobody at VFL games. Even the famous Praham Football Club a former VFA powerhouse now plays in the VAFA
The WAFL clubs voted against the Dockers & Eagles coming into the WAFL or forming an associaion with Peel Thunder & East Perth. They were outvoted by the WAFC who made it happen.

Just look how much of a joke Peel/Fremantle treated the WAFL finals last year. When Fremantle rested all their players in the last round they pulled half the Peel Thunder side to play for them which happened to be the 1st week of the WAFL finals. Peel finished 3rd at the end of the Minor Round but got smashed in the Qualifying Final then beaten againthe following week in the 1st semi final as they did not take it seriously enough unlike Claremont, West Perth and Subiaco.

(Who were pleased Claremont did not get past the elimination Final as they beat all of the top 5 sides leading into the finals quite easy in the last 5 weeks of the season thus sneaking into 5th place in the last round but were run over by a full strenght East Perth / Eagles side inthe last quarter of the Elimination Final.)

But getting back to the topic Rob Gerrard should be taken to task for his comments and sellin false hope that an extra 3000 - 4000 peoplw will turn up to each game. Seldom right and wrong again Rob.

Even Kris Grant said the same thing on the MMM sports show Saturday that they are not turning up as they have no interest in watching their club play a reserves side thus supporters get complacent and won't turn up the following week if they have the bye as well and they find others things to do.

GET THE AFL OUT OF THe SANFL and listen to your supporters who said NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do this and they might return even myself might get back and buy a membership again.

I love the Bays and spent many a Saturday afternoon in the late 70's & 80's cheering them on and it breaks my heart that they are in this mess, but the Boards of clubs didn't listen to their members and now they are voting in droves by not turning up games across the league
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

The Bays are that deep in it that you can't expect anyone to believe 2000 memberships (if that) lost over the last two years have been the catalyst.

Its definatley not the only reason but its a massive kick in the ass, here is some numbers.

Lets say its 1500 members that have left in the last two years not 2000. So 750 buy just a membership and the other 750 buy a membership plus the home game ticket (i think that would be a generous reflection of a membership break up (haven't included people buying a full season pass)

LOST INCOME (based on this years membership prices)

750 x supporter membership valued at $75.00- $56 250.00
750 x silver membership (mbship plus home game ticket) valued at $140.00- 105 000.00

Lets say for arguments sake each home game half of them attend (750) the 10 home games and buy one beer each a game.
750 members per game x 1 $7.50 beer -$5625.00 x 10 home games- $56 250.00

Let also say that over the whole course of a year they each convince one mate to come to one game.

1500 x 1 entry at $14.00- $21 000.00 (im not including them to spend a red cent once inside the ground)

Now from that amount of members the club has already lost $238 500.00

Not one of them has bought a piece of merchandise yet, not one of them has spent any money in the club rooms outside of the one beer they bought. They haven't attend any club functions etc etc.

Those other figures are being very generous as well.

I think it would be fair to say a loss of 1500 members could easily equate to around 500k in lost income, now no that wouldnt solve their problems but it is a bloody big start.

Remembering also you cant put a dollar value on having 1500 members who are also 'promoters' of the club likely to 'like and share' Glenelg facebook posts, hit their website, talk about Glenelg to their mates etc etc.

And heaven bid if one or two of those 1500 were the Wedgie, OTR, Centurian, Fester, UKFan types who pump well over 1k into the clubs coffers a season. Thats where the money really starts to add up.
