Confirmation this morning that RPH will NOT be broadcasting SANFL this year...

Very didsappointing, indeed...

Not sure if another station will come into the equation, this late in the piece, so I assume that other games will be audio streamed...

From what I am lead to belive, the station weren't able to get the sponsorship they needed to make it viable and not sure they were happy with what the League was bringing to the table...

Stay tuned for any more info as it comes to hand...

Who benefits from this decision?
RPH have been a solid contributor over the years, it'll be sad to see them go.

Look forward to whatever coverage follows it.

Very disappointing Phil, i always tuned in to RPH because of the SANFL and i wouldn't known the station existed if it weren't for the SANFL broadcast. It will be missed :(

I guess more in-house SANFL broadcasts where they can control the agenda outside of the football call more closely.

"Crowds have been good" - "Dilbert Huckleschmuck from Tootancamdingo* has been a good top-up for Adelaide"

Expect plenty of Adelaide games to be the showcase of the weekends SANFL play.

Really disappointing to hear this. RPH have contributed far more (in terms of coverage) than any radio station towards the league in recent years.

A sign of the times.

Season starts in less than a fortnight. If this forum is anything to go by, expect another record (low) setting season for crowds and interest.

I'm also very disappointed to hear this.
Interested to hear reasons for it. The AFL reserves muscling in on the SANFL was supposed to increase coverage, as part of the promises package for entering. I'm not going to point the finger without knowing the full story, but at this stage I think we're owed an explanation why RPH will not be covering the SANFL this season.

Disappointing to hear that. With C7 bailing at the end of 2017 also it doesn't bode well for coverage going forward

To my knowledge, RPH had a couple of possible sponsors pull out so that didn't help the cause...

Pretty sure they have been broadcasting SANFL for 25 years...

There is still SA radio coverage, VALE PARK, with LifeFM's broadcasting in 2016...

I'm pretty sure the games RPH would have covered will now have audio and / or video stream coverage...

Agree! i have never seen interest in the SANFL (at this time of the year) so low.

Should be a bumper of a season ahead for the SAND FULL

I dare say that any loss of sponsors could realistically be connected to the undeniable downturn in interest in the SANFL since the admission of the two Mockingbirds to the competition.
Are you allowed to comment on that statement Big Phil?

So who will call the live streams?

I guess the SANFL can get anyone to call these games and probably do it for free!

I believe the League are working through that tomorrow...

I would guess it will be the majority of the same voices that called last year, both with RPH and the streaming, provided they would want to be involved...

So the likes of myself, Don Cooper, Grant Coffee, Chris Kendall, John Nankivell, Phil Herden and maybe Neil Cross...

I have heard that Neil is moving to Brisbane for work but that could be balanced out by Michael Maney being back in Adelaide, should he want to call some local footy...

I would also like to think that someone like Kym Morgan may be interested in calling SANFL again now that he is not working for the Advertiser...

I would suspect the SANFL will go over the details, including commentators, where I am led to believe they'll look to appoint someone to coordinate the callers round by round...

Not sure where that will leave the likes of Dennis Browne and Darryl Smith as to whether they want to be involved in streaming and then there is the other crew of Jim Hough, Adrian Pickles and John Callaghan?

I'm pretty sure it will also be discussed at this meeting that the League HAVE to provide some remuneration to callers if they want it handled in-house. People shouldn't and wont do it 3 years in a row for no financial reward...

Stay tuned for more info in the coming days...
