The good and the bad

Postby Bounce of the ball » Wed Mar 23, 2016 6:06 pm

I thought it would be a good topic to actually look at what the SANFL do well and not so well. There is often a lot of whinging about what they do wrong and at times is just jumping on that bandwagon for various personal reasons.

Wrong

Night games against low crowd pulling clubs
AFL GF before ours
Admitting AFL reserves
No suburban ground finals
Salary cap too low
Bending over to the AFL
Not investing the money from the sale of Footy Park for the ongoing financial return for the clubs centrally

Right

Trying to program against the AFL
The new ticketing system (potentially)
Trying new rules to better the game
Still can access the ovals during game
Investing in some marketing ( Coffee cups is new)

I am sure there is more on each side.

WRONG

That they didn't close the whole shop up a couple of years ago. Couldn't even get the timing of this right. Could have gone out with dignity and the whiff of a two-fingered salute, but now it's just heading towards a sad inevitability.

Good Friday's a winner but I'd been preaching that it would be for 20+ years. I took 4 people along today who wouldn't normally go and my son went to Noarlung also, he stopped going years ago. Nothing else to do on Good Friday so it's good to see the SANFL finally reaping the rewards that were there all along to be reaped.

Totally agree

Unfortunately the AFL will come in and cut our lunch next year and u can almost guarantee one of the Crows or Power will have a good Friday home game

Unlike the dickheads in the FA & EPL who sacrifice a double bank holiday weekend so they could stage a totally pointless England friendly.
**** All to do for most on Friday and Monday but go to the footy, if they'd had any that is.

So good move by the SANFL.

But just shows that most sporting authorities have NFI about what is in the best interest of their own sport

Nah i reckon it will be in Melb and they'll give it to a low crowd pulling club like Demons, Kangas or Bulldogs initially.

Anzac Eve should be Norwood and Port at the Adelaid oval as a regular feature.

Not for mine, Anzac Day should be shared among all so GF replay is the fairest way of achieving that

that concept had a thread of credibility pre AFL Reserves Teams but definitely not now surely??

Previous year's Grand Finalists the best option - as it should be in the AFL
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

To be fair I don't think the post referred to Anzac Day or taking it from the Grand Finalists, rather Anzac Eve presumably meaning the night before.

To start with and then watch in two years time when its Super Good Friday Football. Fits the bill for both attendances and tv ratings. The AFL have watched comps like the SANFL now do it with little controversy or fight from the church groups and will now take their pie with a low attending melbourne side and then some highly rating tv fixtures.

12:45pm - Adelaide vs Collingwood
3:30pm- North Melbourne vs Footscray
6:00pm- West Coast vs Sydney

My suggestion is for Anzac Day Eve not Anzac Day and at the Adelaide oval.
The SANFL has to create new options for fans by being inventive.
Not like their 5 byes this year,
a good crowd would be assured, some might buy into the whole season.
The above may not suit Norwood though if it had to give up of a home game.
To me bad luck.
What is best for the comp is what counts.

Agree the SANFL needs to get a lot more creative with its fixturing and that doesn't mean how many byes they can add in

Spot on Spermy. Should always be grand finalists day. That's one of the rewards.
Why on earth would would you want to reward an AFL reserve team in that way.
