Unfortunately now confirmed that Anthony Petrie has quit the 36ers despite assurances he was going to exercise his option to stay.

Heading to Brisbane supposedly.

So long Gibson. Thanks for your occasional fantastic performances. Hope your more frequent lame and ineffective performances are on display regularly at the Brisbane On again/Off agains.

Unfortunate but expected news with the Brisbane Bullets coming back next season.

I agree Townsville were always my 2nd favourite team after the 36ers. My first NBL game I saw live was a 36ers/Suns game back in their Ricky Jones/Rimas Kurtinaitis days in the early 90's.

The Crocs went into voluntary administration last offseason and with the Brisbane Bullets a lock to come back once Larry Kestelman took over the NBL the Crocs fans needed to turn up this past season to give them any chance of hanging around beyond this season. They didn't and the Townsville public started to turn their back on the Crocs about 4-5 years ago so they've got no one to blame other than themselves.

The NBL made the decision it was more important to get a team back into Brisbane a big city of 2 million people rather than bother keeping a team in a distant regional town like Townsville that the locals didn't even care to support anymore. Essentially replacing Townsville with Brisbane was also meant to be a big part of the TV deal with Fox Sports. Much more potential for growth in Brisbane and much easier for Fox to televise games there than the cost of doing games up in Townsville also with small crowds and minimal atmosphere which doesn't look good on TV.

Good summary Gozu. Have read on other forums that management of the club haven't done themselves any favours the past few years. Seems as though the writing has been on the wall for a while now.

Rucker, Rose, Reidy, Rillie (something about surnames beginning with R 8) ) are some of the names I think of when I recall the Crocs.

Although I don't follow the league intently anymore as my club was one of the many that have folded, you can't help but have a soft spot for the likes of Townsville (well no longer..), Cairns and Illawarra that have managed to survive. I think that was one of the appealing aspects of the league in its heyday, that these small market/regional clubs could mix it at times with the Wildcats, Sixers, Tigers etc. Ultimately though most of them have been forced to shut their doors which perhaps was always inevitable (Hobart, GC, Newcastle/Hunter, Geelong to name a handful more..)

All these clubs are doing business and all we've done is lose players. Are we signing anyone?

We're pretty much not even getting mentioned in rumours. We should've learnt from that last offseason.

Keeping Randle was the top priority but jeez will he have 4 other guys to play with? Got point guard and centre sorted with Johnson, just about every other position needs filling.
