The traditional Wednesday Par 3 comp has been run and won. An amazing 9 "aces" recorded, including one by the eventual winner Jimmy Walker. Walker took out the event with a record-setting score of 8 under par 19.... that's some shooting!

Once again the par 3 comp provided the opportunity for many players to have their kids along for the day. Some great photo's about on social media.

Read a report that Rory McIlroy did not take part in the event. It seems the "jinx" of no player ever winning both the par 3 and the green jacket in the same year, is still a part of a few players mind set.

I've taken Charl Schwartzel at $3.75 for a top 10 finish.

Like Fowler too, he is in reasonable form. He just needs to make his 'bad' round an average one and he could be right there.

Hoping Day or Scott can do the business, especially Day.

Day tied second on -4 after 15 holes. If he has a sore back he isn't showing it and playing pretty solidly.

1 minute of madness on the first hole and he's out of contention.

I reakon the second one he missed was really average work by a professional and he threw the towel in.

What odds he has a sore back and doesn't finish the tournament?

I had a bit of a giggle when Ernie took the 5th putt seriously.... bit late then champ!

As the opening day of play comes to a close at Augusta, Jordan Spieth has continued his fabulous Masters form posting a 6 under 66 to be the leader in the clubhouse. The gusty winds took their toll on much of the field, however Spieth was seemingly unaffected.

The forecast for the remaining 3 days is fine, sunny and the winds to continue. This combination will make for very slick greens by the end of the week. The good news for past winner Ernie Els is he will most likely get the weekend off. Els opened with a disastrous 6 stab on the first green to record a Robran (10), imagine how he would fair if they got quicker!

Jason Day was right in contention, however he stumbled late in his round dropping 5 shots in the closing holes, including a horrendous triple bogey 6 at the par 3 16th. Day closed out his round at even par 72.

Kiwi Danny Lee sits at -4, along with Shane Lowry who looks the part, despite his hipster beard. Rory Mcilroy is also at -4 through 16 holes.

At -3 is a group containing Justin Rose, Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia & Paul Casey. Englishman Casey has long been a player of promise, and seeminghly has the game for Augusta.

Adam Scott had a disappointing opening round of 4 over 76.

Day 6 shots off the pace, but I feel if he can go bogey free tomorrow he is right in the mix.

I haven't seen Ernie's brain fade on the 1st, and actually sad to hear about. He hasn't been in contention on a Sunday for years but still maintains a great easy flowing swing. As they say, drive for show, putt for dough
