Does anyone know what the facilities are like at Cornerstone College? I have heard they have a pretty good oval with no cricket pitch. Could that be a possible location for a pre-season competition?

from what I have seen the oval at cornerstone is pretty good!!

tips for mine are as follows:

mt barker over torrens valley, but not by a lot.
Echunga over blackwood, but not by a lot.
Hahndorf over onkas, by plenty.
mt lofty, but not by much.
Uraidla over Lobethal, by who knows how much.

I have to say that I am not overly confident with my tips in four of those four matches.
Good sign for the comp I suppose!

Not sure about lights....but ground appears pretty good.

Out there on a limb, here are my tips;

Mt Barker over Torrens Valley by 5 goals
Blackwood over Echunga by 7 goals
Hahndorf over Onkas by 3 goals (If there is an upset Im picking this game, everyone out to beat Hahndorf and in their minds Hahndorf players already think theyve probably won it, I think this is a danger game for the Pies)
Mt Lofty over Ironbank by 2 goals
Lobey over Uraidla by 5 goals

Noone has said anything to me - I personally wouldnt know - I am just playing devils advocate that with some big name ins, the Pies would be very confident (and rightly so) but the game is also played in the head and IF (yes thats a big IF) Onkas come steaming out it might put the Pies off.

But if the Pies get a 5 - 6 goal lead early on, then it could get very ugly for the Dogs.! (cant you see Im hedging my bets now that I am thinking more about it!!)

Interesting round 1 completed and looks like it will be a cracking competition again this year.

No surprise with Hahndorf beating the dogs but was good to see the doggies keep it close for 3 quarters but the class and depth of Hahndorf can be a bit much at time.

Lobethal keep their winning ways over uraidla with what must of been a scintillating final quarter as they were only a few points up at 3 quarter time. Must be pleasing for the Tigers that there best players were some younger guys also which will help lessen their reliance on the Jenkins boys, Baust and bampton. Uris team looked a little different from previous years and they will miss Ricky Ebert for a while so could be interesting to see how they go.

Barker just got over the line against TV but appeared to be up by a few goals all day. Barker will be very hard to beat this year and with young Michael pope to come back in the next few weeks they will be even better. TV will be a good side also especially with the inclusion of John Pratt in the middle but the loss of Montgomery is huge as he adds a lot of class.

Blackwood kicked away in the last over echunga to win comfortably. Blackwood look to be much improved this year with the additions of Anderson, Hopton, Watchman and Sporn. The Dees on the other hand are going to miss big Cranna immensely and appear to be lacking any depth by the B grade score so hopefully they don't get injury to key players. Guy, Jennings, Aish and a few others will have to carry a big load this year for the Dees.

The bankers got over the line against a spirited lofty due to a dominant third quarter. The inclusion of a big ruckman in Bottin was huge for the bankers as he was able to neutralise the talented O'heril for lofty. Wendleborn was a huge target up forward as well, for lofty Nielsen dominated especially in the first half as he was allowed to roam around by himself. Once they add the class of miles back in a few rounds they will start to win a few games.

Huge year ahead and can't wait to see how it unfolds.

Mt Lofty over Ironbank by 2 goals
Lobey over Uraidla by 5 goals

Well I got 4 out of 5...! Missed the Lofty game ...

Margins werent very accurate and my hedging over the Hahndorf and Onkas was probably right, it appears Onkas right in it but that last quarter was a demolition with Sportspulse and the Hahndorf facebook telling a sad story for Onkas, Hahndorf kicked their total score in the last quarter. Onkas would have to be terribly disappointed about that.

Another great round coming up

Mt Barker over Onkas by 5 goals
Blackwood over Mt Lofty by 6 goals
Lobethal over Torrens Valley by 2 goal
Hahndorf over Ironbank by 4 goal
Uraidla over Echunga by 3 goals

See how wrong I am this week!

i reckon four out of five isn't too bad for round one wazz.
the Hahndorf margin was only on the back of a 10 goal last quarter by the reigning premier.

I reckon we are looking at a pretty tight comp.

Had to laugh at a summary of the HFL scores on PowerFm when it was mentioned that 'could anyone beat Hahndorf this year?"

With only 2 games of the season gone (and Hahndorf playing 2 of the teams that didnt player finals last year) how could anyone really judge the performance of any team just yet?

I got one wrong again on the weekend, and that was Lobey v Torrens Valley. I will keep trying to get 5/5 and when I do will retire from tipping;

Uraidla def Mt Lofty by 4 goals
Blackwood def Ironbank by 8 goals
Torrens Valley def Echunga by 3 goals
Lobethal def Onkas by 3 goals
Mt Barker def Hahndorf by 3 goals

This will make Mt Barker and Blackwood undefeated for the year so far and top of the ladder.

Hahndorf will probably lose a game this year but they will win the flag there just to deep. Their captain Tripodi is still set to return and on the weekend T. Male, Handby and D Roberts didn't play. In saying that we were awful and are probably well behind the pack especially when a few players are out but Hahndorf are a fantastic side. I mean how many teams have a midfield like Roberts, Paul, Matsen and Jaensch with Leake, Handby, Tripodi and Hankin to go through their as well. Then they have the best key forward in Hourigan and one of the best key defenders in Purling there just a great side. I think they will beat Barker by 6 goals this weekend as when there fully switched on their way to good for everyone.

I'm happy to be proven wrong but that is just my opinion.

The gap is now far and wide between the big town clubs and everyone else in Div 1. Only three clubs can win the flag being Hahndorf, Mt Barker and Blackwood. The rest are just making up the numbers and supplying the division with a 10 team competition. How can the smaller clubs compete with the growing population and surrounding infrastructure of these big town clubs? The truth is they can't.

Handby should play this weekend as South Adelaide have the bye and also the following week as they play on Sunday May 1
