I LOVE the state game, and apart from the GF and finals, is probably my favourite game of the year. It sucks there is no SOO in AFL so this is the next best thing, even if half the players aren't from SA etc. Always nice to beat the old enemy. Disappointing that so many hate this game. Back in the day it was just about the biggest game of the year. Still is in the NRL, they do it properly...

Staggered that Jansen from the doggies hasn't been included. Best player in the comp just about. Hopefully gets added soon.

Not a real Victorian team,just a C grade competition,does anyone really care.
If 950 turn up great for those involved.
We have to give up a serious game of SANFL suburban footy why?
Yet another boring bye in SA again.
That makes it 5 over the footy season,
unbelievable.
Wake up SANFL.
Such a waste of a Saturdays in footy season.
Why?

Riley, O'Brien and Hoskin added to the squad. Happy with those additions but still like to see Jansen selected.

Let's face it, the Game is NOT a 'State Game', really.
Its a Representative Game - League vs League.

The State of Origin Games of the 80's were some of the BEST Games of Footy, I have witnessed.
Seeing Kernahan, Bradley, Jarman, Platten, Naley, Lindner, Leslie, Aish, McDermott, Roberts, Motley, Fielke, Anderson, Craig, Rendell, Mickan, Parker, as well as non-selected Vics like Bolton, Schimmelbusch & Big Grenville - was wonderful.

But that all changed with the advent of the AFC.

If they are determined to play a 'State Game' every year, then surely they need to make it 'State of Origin' based?
Having 1/2 the SA side from elsewhere, doesn't really promote 'pride in the jumper' does it?
How about reference to 'those that have gone before'?
All seems a little hollow to a bloke who grew up (& probably played U/16s &/or U/18s for Vic Country or Metro) in Victoria, doesn't it?

Perhaps making it State of Origin, might increase the interest level too?

No its not. If the best players were selected from each league the VFL would win by 15 goals.
Its not even a representative game, its a meaningless handicapped event designed as a junket for a small group of people.

Just noticed Glenelg and Eagles both have 2 byes in a row.
That is about 20 days break between games,in the middle of the footy season!
Something wrong here!

It's all okay though. Earlier in the season we played 3 games in 12 days. 8-}

The SANFL are telling the clubs to increase their income streams.
How do they achieve that with so many games '5 byes' not being played during the season.
Sponsors with signage etc and members want action on home grounds in the footy season,
not people walking their dogs with empty grandstands.

Spot on.
Would think the VFL is made up of mainly of AFL listed players who are ineligible for the game.
The VFL reps are basically the dregs of the comp
