Nut, don't like defenders who wander up the ground thinking their midfielders

Zartan's Mid Year Review - Mawson Lakes
A Grade
Won - 3
Lost - 6
Percentage – 46.04%
Position – 6th
Players Used - 36
Run Home: A – H – A – H – A – A – H – A - H
Most Goals – Ivan Novosel (21 goals)
Most Valuable – Andy Carr

After a disappointing 2015 that did show signs of improvement, Mawson Lakes headed into 2016 with greater enthusiasm and expectation. 3/6 return from the first half of the season could well have been a lot greater with narrow losses to Woodville South, Ingle Farm and Houghton Districts. Had those results gone the other way, the Lakes would be 6/3 and we would be singing their praises as a contender.

None the less, the Mozzies sit in 6th position – well within striking distance of the 5, and a belief amongst the group that they have the capability to match it with all sides.

Ivan Novosel’s return to the side has shown the goal kicking champion of the club has lost none of his touch, and leads the way with 21 goals for the season. Daniel Phillips and Duncan Brown have shown support with 11 and 9 goals respectively, while Lachie Kennett is finding himself sneaking forward with more regularity kicking 7.

Andy Carr has been a prominent name amongst the Saints best, with the veteran featuring on 5 of the 8 games he’s played, and collecting 4 goals to stamp his worth at the most valuable at the midway point. Nathan Delbridge, Darren king and Lachie Kennett are providing wonderful support, in what is a fully complimented midfield brigade.

A name to watch over the back half will be Brayden Bennett. The recruit from Para Hills will begin finding his feet, and has the ability to rip a game away from opposition sides.

Only 4x home games remain for the season, two against Brahma Lodge and Trinity OS, the Saints will have their work cut out for them to make the finals – 5x wins from their remaining 9 games should see them scrape in.

Rating: C+

B Grade
Won - 1
Lost - 8
Percentage – 32.23%
Position – 8th
Players Used - 43
Run Home: A – H – A – H – A – A – H – A - H
Most Goals – Aidan Curtis (10 goals)
Most Valuable – Joel Melican

Just the one solitary win so far for Mawson Lakes, probably doesn’t do justice to the effort Justin Keast’s boys have been giving. Regular whipping boys last season, the Lakes are playing a far more consistent brand off footy this year, and finally appear to have a bit of self-belief in what they’re doing. Two loses by less than a goal has hurt the Saints, but they’ll be buoyed by the effort.

Aidan Curtis has led the way up forward with 10 majors, in a side that doesn’t kick a lot of goals each week. Wealth Thach with 5 goals in his two games has shown he is a quality pick up for the Lakes.

Over a difficult season, Joel Melican has proven the most valuable as he’s found himself amongst the best on 5 of his 6 games, whilst also slotting a couple of goals. Not to be outdone, David Gough has also managed to impact the Lakes best on 5 of his 6 appearances.

More consistency and bit more output from others in the side will be required in the back half – they won’t make the finals, but Mawson Lakes have the ability to cause an upset and shape the 5, and should claim a couple of scalps along the way.

Zartan's Mid Year Review - Mitchell Park
A Grade
Won - 1
Lost - 8
Percentage – 38.51%
Position – 10th
Players Used - 35
Run Home: H – A – H – A – H – H – A – H - A
Most Goals – Nat McDonnell (26 goals)
Most Valuable – Brandon Walczak

Premiers in D7 last year, Mitchell Park recruited heavily over the summer, but have unfortunately found the step up to D6 are trying one. Competitive for periods of the game, but unable to sustain has hurt the Lions as they’ve slipped to 1/8 and find themselves languishing on the bottom of the A grade ladder at the halfway point.

Nat McDonnell up forward continues to fight hard for his beloved Lions, with the aging star picking up 26 goals so far this season. Travis Hyde (11 goals) and Adam Halime (10 goals) have done their best to support McDonnell, and Weekley continues to impress – and could well be considered the most valuable player so far.

In my view however, the most valuable player for the Lions has been Brandon Walczak. The lightly framed Walczak has continued to run and repel opposition attacks for Mitchell Park, and would be the Tigers best polling player in the count. Chris Farrell and Jack Van Den Brink are others who have proven worthy at the level, while new recruit Lynton Power has made early impressions.

Difficult finish to the season, but would enter all their remaining home games with confidence – won’t make the 5 but if they’re determined enough, they can avoid relegation.

Rating: D+

B Grade
Won - 5
Lost - 4
Percentage – 48.88%
Position – 6th
Players Used - 52
Run Home: H – A – H – A – H – H – A – H - A
Most Goals – Andre Wilson (22 goals)
Most Valuable – Matthew Davidson

Coming up from D7 was going to be a tough ask, especially given they didn’t set the world alight last season in their division. However under the guile of Morgan Ellingham, the Lions jumped out of the blocks and shocked the competition, winning their first 4 games including defeating last years premiers Trinity OS.

From there, Mitchell Park have found the going a fraction harder, as inconsistent sides, injuries and playing a step up in opposition has seen them reach the halfway point with 5/4 record.

Andre Wilson has been a quality find, helping himself to 22 goals so far this season, and receiving good support from Jason McBride and Brad Moroney who have 11 and 10 goals respectively. Those three aside, Mitchell Park have been fortunate to have a swag of players who’ve chimed in regularly with goals.

Matthew Davidson has been arguably their most valuable player when available. The experienced head of Davidson has collected 3 BOG’s and featured in their top players on another occasion in just his 5 outings for the club. Daniel Battersby, Liam Ransley and the Hulk McBride have been pivotal in the Lions performances throughout the first half.

As with the start of the season, Mitchell Park would be confident of starting this next block strongly, and would have confidence in picking up wins at home against Ingle Farm and Adelaide Lutheran. They’re well in the hunt for finals action, and are sure to be around the mark come seasons end.

Zartan's Mid Year Review - Trinity OS
A Grade
Won - 3
Lost – 5
Drawn - 1
Percentage – 52.89%
Position – 5th
Players Used - 37
Run Home: H – H – A – H – A – H – A – H - A
Most Goals – Todd Lamont (16 goals)
Most Valuable – Innes MacPhail

Elimination finalists last year, Trinity OS came into this season looking to improve on that standing, and recruited well to complement their squad. The return of Spurr signalled the Lions intend to push for improvement and potentially promotion to D5 for 2017. As the first half of the year has unfolded though, TOS has let crucial fixtures slip – 4x games lost by under 2 goals – to record just the 3 wins.

The turning point appears to have come though, as the TOSser’s sent shockwaves through the competition just two weeks ago when they scratched out a character building draw against the seemingly invincible West Croydon, followed up with a strong win over finals hopefully Mawson Lakes, to find themselves right in the hunt again for the 5.

Todd Lamont has made an impact straight away with his new club, with the clever midfielder getting forward to lead the TOS goal kicking with 12. Matt Perry after starting the season in the B grade has stamped his claims as one of the best small forwards in the comp with 12 goals from his 5 appearances, but Trinity are lacking goals from their more renowned bigger targets at the moment.

Innes MacPhail impresses each week, and if the umpires see his games with as much affection as the Trinity coaching staff, then he may well be right in the hunt at this point of the medal count – having been adjudged amongst the best for the Lions on 7 of his 8 games. Brad Cameron and Andrew Pounendis have been others who have proven consistency is key for the TOSsers so far this season.

A favourable draw for the back half for Trinity, just the 4x away games and two of those against sides below them, they’d be backing themselves to win more than they lose on the return half, and I expect will find themselves firmly entrenched in the 5 by seasons end.

Rating: C+

B Grade
Won - 5
Lost - 4
Percentage – 57.04
Position – 4th
Players Used - 46
Run Home: H – H – A – H – A – H – A – H - A
Most Goals –Thomas Krieg (20 goals)
Most Valuable – Matthew Burne

Last year’s premiers were always going to have difficulty this year going about their business as quietly as last year, with greater attention being shown to them. An inability to field consistent sides have hurt Trinity, and their loss to Mitchell Park early in the year may have been the wakeup call required.

They’ve won games they should, and are doing enough to have themselves sitting in 4th place ahead of the ledger with a 5/4 record, well positioned for an assault on the 2nd half of the season.

Thomas Krieg’s return has proven a god send for coach Ben Hall, as the strongly built forward has kicked 20 goals – including two bags of 7, to help cover the loss of Perry to the A grade who had 13 goals before his departure. Schaper (12 goals) and Crocker (11 goals) are two others who have enjoyed the taste of goals regularly.

Matthew Burne could consider himself the most valuable over the 1st 9 rounds, with the dangerous half forward flanker creating plenty of run and drive for the Lions, while hitting the scoreboard also with 5 goals. Brodie Fraser up forward has done his job, and Kale Dahlgren through the centre is the catalyst for the TOS attacking forays.

A strong draw in their favour on the back half, Trinity OS would be approaching all these games with supreme confidence, and should all go as they’d hope, they could well be looking to win between 7-9 games from here, rocketing them right back into premiership favouritism at the right time of the year, and earning another tilt at glory.

Heard some bragging the other week, he's going to be in the A grade come finals as their ruckman.. but due to other commitments cant play at the moment, so they're qualifying in the early games... at $600 a game in the C grade

Pretty sure T.Cloke is also on the radar at BL, can't get a game at Collingwood and BL can better his current salary without putting a dent in the financials, so hopefully they pull that one off  Who am I kidding, I would rather Aloisi in the side anyway!

Not sure why people from other clubs bother talking about $$ at other clubs, they are never accurate and if they were I am not sure what it achieves... FWIW Mossy will be getting paid closer to a three zero figure so hopefully people feel better about knowing that and all speculation can be put to bed? This topic has been beaten to death over the years, seems to everyone's favourite topic rather than talking about the footy!!

It was mentioned because it's ridiculous to think you'd pay a bloke to play C grade.. the figure is irrelevant - and don't tell me I'm wrong, because I know I'm not.

I don't know much about what goes on behind the scenes at BL so I can't say if you are wrong or right, sounds like you know a lot more about it than me...

My comment was more about what it achieves knowing the $$ figures or knowing if someone gets paid to play in any grade? If he does get paid to play B or C grade then everyone can kick and scream on here, achieves nothing! If he does get paid to play A grade then we will hear everyone kick and scream about how much he is getting paid... lose lose fro BL here...

Let's just say he is getting paid to play C grade football and we can all move on to this weekend's fixtures :D

Haha great use of the emoji's and a proud winner right here :partyman:
But i don't want to win on here, I want to win to Saturday.
Hoping the result is much different to that in round 1. BL had a fair few new players in the side who hadn't played together that day but have now played 9 games together so should be a more aware of each other's abilities and strengths which should put us in a better position to tackle who I think is the best team in the competition. I think we have the ability and the talent in the side to match it with them... Will be a good test to see where BL are really at.

 think most would agree Zartan wins on points. For a club doing what is rumored (yes clearly we shouldn't be talking about Brahma's fiscal advantage I know) most looking from the outside, would consider anything less than a premiership at Brahma land would make them look like a joke.......again

Quick shout out to Zartan for his reviews, awesome stuff mate. The amount of effort and research you've gone to is extraordinary. Much better than the "professional" ones.
