Thought the usual South supporters turned up today.

Hardly any Port Power ressie supporters at the game. Most would of stayed home to watch the Port v Freo game.

After witnessing this game today, the Magpies are well and truly dead ! No one give a $hit about them anymore.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

938 would be the worst ever exact crowd figure in the SANFL, is that right?

Sadly that figure came as no shock. Wasn't expecting many above 1100.

Only the Sunday 'morning' game last year against the Ravens has had a poorer/flatter atmosphere. Worrying times.

938. Yikes!

Personally I wasn't expecting this sub-grand milestone until next season, but I guess plenty of Power people staying home not wanting to miss the best part of two quarters of their league game. Fair enough too.

And aren't we all glad they stayed home to watch Freo beat them!

The attendance at South vs Central at Noarlunga, round 12 of 1999 was certainly less than 1000. I don't remember the exact figure. I will find it during the week. That has been the only time since I have been following the SANFL that there has been a crowd of less than 1000 until today.

What would have they got if the weather had been inclement.

Prior to and during World War 2, Glenelg regularly drew less than 1,000 people to their games. I am not old enough to remember those days but I have seen the figures in newspapers of the day.

Just checked - that 1999 match between South and Centrals had 950 in attendance.

Almost every crowd figure under 1100 in the 2000s and beyond have been at Noarlunga.

Unfortunately, Channel 7 made it quite an easy decision for a lot of Magpies/Power supporters.

If nothing has grabbed the SANFL's attention regarding the deteriorating crowds, hopefully this will.

I understand the SANFL is determined to have matches shown on Channel 7's main channel, but this type of scheduling isn't good. If this match had been played tomorrow and been on TV (and Glenelg-Sturt played today at the Bay), then you're looking at at least 1,200-1,300 straight away. That's not great, but there's something symbolic about a three-figure crowd number.

You make a good point and it could be any side that had a low turn-out. The scheduling of a game just before a Port Power direct telecast has hurt South badly. With Channel 7 giving a direct telecast of the SANFL was always going to be bad. Probably good for ratings although most PA supporters would have turned it off with South belting them. Did the SANFL program the Port Reserves and Adelaide Crows byes to coincide with the AFL sides byes. Convenient.

I'm struggling to get my head around this figure.
Considering that there were 80 players, 30 support staff, 40 mini league kids and their families, players families and South had a sold out event after the game for over 200 people.
There literally were a couple of hundred fans after all that!
You've got to feel for South (and Central), they're copping the result of a decision that was either corrupt or completely ignorant by delegates of other clubs.

Can guarantee that wont happen with the AFL puppets in control of the comp at this time. Time for a cleanout

Good point.
I imagine that Power fans would have suddenly remembered that they have a reserves side if it was programmed during the bye. Likewise, the ravens might have got more than their usual handful had they been scheduled to play during the Crows bye.
A classic case of deliberately ignoring what's best for the SANFL.

The Eagles should rightly feel very, very aggrieved to have a bye on the one week where there are no AFL games in Adelaide, and particularly when the Crows have the bye. Why were the Power Reserves playing this week and not the Eagles?

II did hear this afternoon a caller to 5aa that Port was advising its supporters to watch the magpies at their clubrooms and then watch he Power. So much for supporting the local comp.
