You're a better judge than me Jim, but I reckon Hart is alright ... Every 3rd or 4th year!

DIdn't mind Italy pre-tournament as roughies, mostly due to pedigree at the biggest events. But if they're relying on Pelle I'm not sure they bat deep enough.

Hopefully I'll be able to see the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, too.

Me too.
Watched it at work. England looked nervous for most of the game and finish currently top and in a good position to go through. I fancy Sales to beat Russia and send them home leaving England just needing a point.

From 40 yards out. I reckon Hart would have had at least 2 secs to judge that. I think he just misjudged the speed and tried to palm it round he corner but it was too hard and too fast.
A decent keeper would have saved that but we all saw him grinning and laughing immediately before the free kick was taken. Maybe he should have just concentrated a bit more on what was happening.

Germany 0-0 with Poland who had the better chances. The world champions not looking convincing.
Little Northern Ireland beat Ukraine 2-0 which gives them a little bit of glory. Can't see them beating Germanybut would be fantastic if they did whilst sending the Getmsnd home.

Ah well, we can dream :D

Update on the Russians who beat the English bloke to a pulp, apparently 3 of them were wearing English Premier League team shirts. 2 of them Chelsea shirts.

Good win for Northern Ireland! :)

Also good to see reports of the Irish partying, dancing, playing, getting along with the French police and even cleaning up after themselves unlike some other nations fans.

Is it 4 or 2? There's 6 groups so only room for 2 yeah?

going by the table of 3rd placed teams at this point it looks like this
Northern Ireland - Pts 3 GD +1 GF 2

Disciplinary points 6; Uefa coefficient 22,961

Slovakia - Pts 3 GD 0 GF 3
Disciplinary points 4; Uefa coefficient 27,171

Portugal - Pts 2 GD 0 GF 1
Disciplinary points 8; Uefa coefficient 35,138

Czech Republic - Pts 1 GD -1 GF 2
Disciplinary points 8; Uefa coefficient 29,403

Romania - Pts 1 GD -1 GF 2
Disciplinary points 3; Uefa coefficient 28,038

Sweden - Pts 1 GD -1 GF 1
Disciplinary points 8; Uefa coefficient 29,028

The top four teams go into the second round based on this ranking.

If it's based on points Slovakia are now top with 4 points but if Portugal and Sweden win then they will jump Northern Ireland on points but the Portugal position depends on what happens with Iceland. i haven't read it properly but I'm assuming all those other categories are for tie-breakers?
