They have been doing this all year, but it is against the rules. You cannot shepherd the man on the mark until play on is called.

I can't believe both the umpiring panel and all the other clubs have not picked this up.

Hawthorn get so many kicks with zero pressure and/or 20-30m free running play on from this tactic.

Spot on, well picked up. Often Josh Gibson does it. At one stage the umpire was even telling him to get out, but still let the play go on. Time off should be blown, the player told to get out, then play is re started. Clarko is a very clever man and constantly looking to gain any advantage he can!

They have been doing that for a few seasons now. I can't understand why more teams don't do it. I am un certain on this - but is there a protected area around the man on the mark? I don't think there is, that being the case, they are playing within the rules. Reckon you will find the player that does this, does NOT touch the player on the mark until play on is called......

Question - what if the player with the ball pushes back 20-25m from the man on the mark, then elects to play on - would the player (Gibson) be penalised for shepherding off the ball?

Interesting question - Reckon you can shepherd a team mate as far off the ball as you like..... can't you??

You can't shepherd more than five metres off the ball, that's why what Hawks do to player on the mark is against the rules also.

Hasn't stopped raining all day in Geelong. Expected to rain all night also.
Makes me feel a bit better about picking the Swans.

Hardly a champion, unless you class someone like Henry Playfair a champ down your way, how many games he played at Geelong?
He sold out Brisbane and Freo for the almighty dollar, went to Melbourne, didnt handle losing, retired from the game and bobs up at a successful club one year later

Maybe not a champion, but the bloke has gone through a lot of injuries, plus depression which is a massive silent killer and come out the other side.
