If Rosewater aren't fair dinkum about getting their house in order, which starts with acknowledging there's an endemic problem then I would have thought the League needs to seriously consider any application for affiliation next year

Come off it! A stupid photo and post when they're all on the piss is not worth too much punishment.

Their record, whilst not the best is hardly evidence of an endemic problem.

of them flipping the middle finger in the photo as well?

FFS they need to grow a brain! Nothing wrong with getting together to have a few beers but whilst you are doing it discuss how you are going to get the club out of this mess.

I'd be amazed if any club has half their record with regard to behaviour to Umps.

Before 16 July 2016 there had been two incidents in two years. I understand in one of those the umpire was suspended as well.

Agree

And as stupid as it is I would think the SAAFL would have some form of 'social media' policy clubs and players would be expected to abide by as well so could there be further sanctions

ROSEWATER Football Club is in hot water again after a rude photo was posted to social media, saying “f*** you” to the SA Amateur Football League, three days after the club was booted from the competition.

The SAAFL has asked the club to explain the photo, which appeared on Facebook on Saturday — three days after the club was booted from the state’s largest grassroots competition.

The photo — which shows players doing a rude hand gesture, while the caption reads: “f*** u saafl” — was posted by a senior player.

SAAFL chief executive John Kernahan said the “latest furore” validated the league’s concerns about the club.

“Fortunately what it does do is validate our ongoing concerns that there were factions within the Rosewater Football Club who could not or would not accept any accountability for their conduct,” he said.

He said the club was going to be subject to ongoing affiliation requirements next year and the Board of Management hadn’t had the opportunity to “discuss what may come of this latest furore - if any at all”.

“But I would imagine any consideration for lesser sanctions have certainly been diluted,” he said. “That said, a picture speaks a thousand words so could there be any bigger penalty than what will come from the court of public opinion.

“The really sad part will be that some of these people will move on and leave a skeleton of a football club to some well-meaning and hardworking people to try and recover from.”

The Rosewater Football Club has been contacted for comment.

Think there has been more than two incidents, but either way, the decision to ban the Club for rest of season has been justified. If they just took points off them, taking them out of finals contention, you can imagine what some of their players would have done on the field, that was the major worry of the League. Think Ricky Pearce the coach would be disappointed in himself allowing it to happen and being front and centre in that photo, even though he did not have his finger raised.

If the SAAFL doesnt hand out the ridiculous penalty to the club in the 1st place there is no story full stop.
Punish the player yes but the club no
