I blame the diocesytem, it really needs to be deaconstructed. It makes a lot of people cross.

Lol

I cooked Beef Chow Mein last night and she went off her nut at me. Called me every name under the sun and she ended up making a couple cheese and bacon croissants and put em under the griller and she burnt the living piss out of em and had to throw em out lol. Geez I laughed.

Clearly didn't pay attention in Home Economics at school. Who the **** burns the arse off croissants

Yes, it has left the clergy stigmata-ised.

My lad is only 10 months old, but it is hilarious to watch him eat.

We just put big chunks of food on his tray rather than feeding him purees and its funny what he goes for.

Bread wins out over anything, then chicken or some other meat, then mashed potatoes, then the baby corn and last the cauli or broccoli.

Sometimes when he grabs a big bit of broccoli he takes a bite then screws his face up and puts it back down.

But he usually eats it all eventually.

Another thing.

Looking back at my own childhood, I never used to like a lot of the meat dishes - chops, steak, roast etc.

When I got a bit older and started either cooking for myself or ordering different things at restaurants, I realised that I loved all that stuff, just that mum used to cook the shit out of it until it was dry as old boots.

I also never used to like olives, oysters, seafood etc etc. Until I learned there was something better than olives on pizzas and frozen seafood.

My point is the preparation and quality of the ingredients matters too. Not saying any of you are bad cooks, but maybe just changing up how it is cooked could work. Maybe a vegetable bake with a bit of white sauce and cheese or soemthing?

In fact it's a geo-political issue. Obama is frustrated, the Presbyterian his hair out!

Another thing I tend to do with our girls is see if they can taste and name the different ingredients in a dish.. or ask what something tastes like e.g. squishy, hard, sweet etc.

If nothing else I find it distracts them a little bit from not wanting to eat something

Mum is an excellent Baker, and mostly isnt a bad cook, its just that "born in the 50s housewife" style if that makes sense

Meat & 3x veg and make sure the meat is cooked ALL the way through - better to be over done than risk seeing "blood" drip out of the steak - because that would make it "raw"

True story, a woman walked into my local butcher and bought a beef roast.
"You know how long to cook it for" asked my butcher
"180 degrees for 4 hours" she replied
"You do know it's dead already" he replied
She was serious...

I've found my 4yo has been eating a lot more variety since I started letting him "help" make dinner.
Got him his own chopping board and kids knife and he cracks eggs, etc.
He will eat it because he made it, working a treat.

I think of it as the 'slavish devotion to the Margaret Fulton Cookbook' school of cooking.

Want to make something 'exotic' or 'foreign'? Stick some fruit on it! Ham with pineapple rings (and some glace cherries) anyone?
