In 2014 they had the qualifying final at 4ish followed by the elimination final at 7ish. I would have thought this would work better on a Saturday than a midday start when local footy/netball etc finals are on.

As far as AFL matches go, Port play at the GC that night, so perhaps it's C7 pulling the strings and wanting 3 straight matches on TV.

Week 3 and 4 should be Saturday too as the AFL usually has night matches on those weekends.
At least the SANFL got something half right, better than usual.

Actually I made a blue.

The first week of SANFL finals falls on the "bye" week in the AFL. The two finals will be the entree before the big woman's game that night

Don't give me any sexist crap, but the hype for gayfl Womens footy is just à replacement for the old Roxtel cup strokefest!
All we want is pure Sanfl!
What's wrong with that? But the knobs couldn't embrace that simple truth.

Guess we will see.
Maybe on TV but doubt more than 1000 people would attend a game.

I think because it's still a one off they might get a bit more. And the ratings will be very good.

The real test will be to whether they can keep interest going for a full season

Hopefully South wins the 2nd semi as I have comic con on the preliminary final weekend in Brisbane so don't want to change flights.

With Westies not playing finals here was the perfect opportunity to play a double header at a suburban ground and get 8-10k+ at Richmond Oval. It is relatively central, has good parking, good terraces, good surface.

It would take us back to the old days of SANFL of having a packed ground and attract more people. Promote the shit out of it and even lower prices, it could be the shot in the arm the league needs after a pretty ordinary year of programming.

You would get neutral SANFL fans turn up, would even help West after a poor year.

Can't agree on the good surface part. Absolute Dogs breakfast at present with the wet winter. Hopefully with some warmer weather it improves.

Think you will find the Reserves Double header is programmed for Richmond week 1 of the finals.

With away changerooms like Glenelg where swinging a cat is neigh on impossible.

Only two ovals have the infrastructure (change rooms) for double header finals Norwood and Woodville

Drop it Dutchy, being able to prepare is important the team in Westies room wood have a distinct advantgage over the clubs forced to share the away rooms. Plus SANFL players like the opportunity to play on teh main ovals (Footy aprk, Adealide Oval) after a year of hard work earning the right to play finals footy.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Agreed. My daughter said it was the worst she'd encountered this year and it was difficult to run 2 metres without turning your ankle on it and didn't know how so many players got through unscathed.

Let's say Centrals and Adelaide play at 12:10, then Sturt and South at 3:10.

Dutchy, how would you set up the use of the change rooms?

We are talking about taking a risk and re-invigorating an ordinary SANFUL season, you need to change things up and this could be massive shot in the arm it needs, if the set up/size of the changerooms is the only issue then it shows how easily this could be done.

There was a dead spot at the south v west game where the ball hit the ground and just stay there, the ground was quite heavy.

I would rather play at home grounds of the higher placed team.

Although the food at Richmond was great and having Jack Daniels in the bar makes the footy experience the best.

it is a risk not worth exploring because of an AFL Franchise involvement. They have already had a hissy fit over the facilities provided at the venue suggested and their bully tactics this year to fellow clubs sharing facilities are well documented.

If the League is struggling to count a minor round crowd at a suburban ground with out taking their shoes and socks off how the hell are they going to handle a finals crowd with a double header?
