Going to be a struggle early on without Beams and Zorko.

Glad Leppitsch has re-signed because I can see the team going winless in the first seven rounds and the pressure on him would've been huge.

Gotta give the guy a chance to have a crack without injuries/go home 5. This will be his first real crack at a season.
Hopefully he's up to standard.

I think he lacks the shrewdness, cunning and tactical nous to be a good senior coach.

We will be bottom of the ladder after round 1 and unlikely to rise much higher.

See I've heard the exact opposite. From all reports he has all of those qualities in bucketloads.

It's his attitude that has got him in trouble.

Justin Clarke has announced his retirement.

Just saw the presser. Poor bloke was choking back tears as he knows his career is over. Copped a head knock at training and can't remember the 3 weeks since and still has symptoms.

That's scary for a 22 year old, good luck to him in the future

Every chance he has ruined his post footy career as well. Studying Aerospace Engineering I believe and certainly not a career to have if you are suffering memory loss

That's a shocking situation for a 22 year old. I wonder what recourse he has regarding compensation? He's theoretically got 60 years ahead of him, so a case study would be an interesting watch.

Best of luck to the lad. Good player cut down by injury before his prime.

$600k compo is what I have read. Not sure on the legalities of it all, but not bad considering. If the AFL starts giving out massive compo $ imagine all the former players coming out claiming.

Lewis Taylor has signed a $1.2m deal over 3 years.

Pot calling kettle black- but that is a ridiculous signing if you ask me.

....but part of Brisbane's problem has been their inability to retain their younger players. Lewis Taylor was looking to leave and they enticed him to stay. Time will tell if they have paid overs for him. Good move by Brisbane. They desperately need some on field leaders.

400k per season for a guy that has plenty to offer, maybe a bit overs but not in the totally rediculas category I would say.

Welcome to the AFL in the 21st century...pay overs on potential only for fear they will leave.

Regardless of how shit you are you still need to pay at least $10.07m of the $10.6m cap.

The Players Association got the "floor" raised from 91% > 93% and > 95% this year. If the new TV deal and collective bargaining currently under way raises the TPP ( and thus the floor ) then blokes like Taylor will be able to command even higher salaries.

Funny that this year Brisbane will pay the same amount in TPP as Sydney ( or thereabouts, at least ). In reality they should be paying less than half that.

On Taylor, he's better than capable and it's a good sign for all of footy that they've been able to stop ( at least for the moment ) the revolving door up there in Brisbane.
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

I think the minimum spend is ridiculous. It makes it harder to retain players as they improve, and it means other players basically take the salary of the best players because the minimum cap forces clubs to pay them overs

i guess they try to get around this by front or back ending contracts so the best players could get huge overs in 1 year but then this allows them money to use in further years

Terrible decision. The guy is a poor man's Boomer.
Can't outsprint an opponent, so turns himself inside out trying to evade and stuffs it up.
Can't understand paying that much for this spud.
