This. I think they've earned the right to play on Adelaide Oval.

Remember times have changed, the SANFL is not the main footy game in SA.
The Adelaide Oval (during the footy season) does not belong to the SANFL anymore.

Dutchy, how would you set up the use of the change rooms?

We are talking about taking a risk and re-invigorating an ordinary SANFUL season, you need to change things up and this could be massive shot in the arm it needs, if the set up/size of the changerooms is the only issue then it shows how easily this could be done.

It's an irrefutable conundrum that would be faced by the organisers, so what's the solution?

It's finals football and all clubs should be given the time and space to prepare as they normally would.

You mean so it's fair & equatable for all clubs?

I think a move to home ground finals is inevitable at some point - if memory serves we were close to going down that track a season or two ago?

The question is - how many extra people would go? Taking last Sundays game at Noarlunga as an example - lets assume that the South faithful are around the mark and there was 2K there. I personally couldn't see that increasing by any more than 500 if it were a final.

I think the novelty of playing at Footy Park in previous years, and AO more recently, along with the double header factor is always going to draw a better collective crowd than two stand alone suburban finals would.

From a fairness point of view though - a benefit would be that suburban finals would definitely reward those finishing higher on the ladder, which isn't the case at the moment if you finish 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

at the moment finishing 2nd gets you the AFL visitors changeroom. Play the early final and you get the cricketers changerooms in the western stands which are about the same size as a minor round visitor rooms

I agree with Dutchy that suburban finals need to be explored.

I also think that the SANFL should have double headers during the season, but that's off topic

Off topic but,
I don't think any club would give away a home game for a double header.
Clubs need more home games not less, they need members and income to survive.
(No home games for the AFL professionals).
Attendances would fall even further, league games starting at 11.10!
Simple,
just go back to Saturday footy, every week 5 games,no byes and if we must have to have a state match well,
that gives everyone a bye,one week off that is enough.
Suburban finals these days are the way of the future IMHO,
with exception of the GF.
again clubs need the income.

Get rid of the AFL sides, each side plays home and away and a neutral (be it double headers or country games) in 21 rounds on Saturday afternoon games with the occasional Friday, all finals at Adelaide Oval on a Saturday afternoon (Top 4).
Crowd average back over 3K, fair comp for all, all problems fixed. Simple.

Why would league games start at 11-10 if it was in a double header?

Sorry again off topic,
but a reply,
to me,
First game would have to start around 11.00 so the second could start just after 2.00.
Finishing later than 5.00 would not be popular.
(also would create a problem with reserves games, clubs resources and volunteers are thin enough now).
Again IMHO league footy is Saturday afternoon, not Saturday morning or Saturday evening or Sunday.
To me some early and late season Friday night football is the exception.

If the first game starts at 12.00, the second can start at 2.45, and finish not long after 5.00. It seemed to work OK before.

There should be 5 matches for the last round so all final placings are worked out at the same time.

My understanding is if port's winning margin and central's losing margin add up to around 55 points then Port are in, but I could be wrong.
