No umps show at West v South Reserves

Postby Wedgie » Sat Aug 20, 2016 12:37 pm

Just when you think the SANFL can't go any further backwards no umpires rocked up for the West v South reserves game. It's already been delayed and may be moved to Monday night if they don't rock up soon. Great for a game that means nothing with so many players and trainers involved.

Nope. The C Grade country games would've had umpires.

They've now started with two field umpires, no boundary umpires and a West supporter as a goal umpire.
Unbelievable!

Spoke to one of the umps, he said their appointments showed the game was on Sunday. Don't know who stuffed up. Doubt they would have played stand alone Reserves game on Sunday when Seniors playing in Berri, as volunteers needed at both games. Not great at all.

The last of Scoop's three photos seems to show a man pointing downwards with both hands. He is either (a) signalling a goal, or (b) summarising the overall direction of league.

Reminds me a few weeks ago,
Glenelg seconds team against the roosters at Prospect.
Some players had black and some had white shorts!

You can see the real umpire inspecting the effort. I imagine if another photo was taken it would show the man in green slapping those hands while yelling "Straight wrists when signalling goals or points!"
Just shows the difference the Goal Umpire's boot camp and all those years of goal umpiring training makes. The professionals make it look easy, but it's actually very hard work.
