There was a fair bit of jockeying for position in Round 9 in Division V as two teams cleared away from the rest and several teams outside of the eight re-joined the fight with some important results. All eyes up front as Robbo and Chops have emerged as the stand out teams with both sides comfortably outscoring the rest with Robbo getting the big one with 2418. Herby and my StrayCats dropped back into the pack a little with the StrayCats copping a boilover at the hands of 15th ranked gcc who scored the upset.

The top eight battle is also heating up but not for the HotShots who got cleaned up by Robbo. Heater took a massive percentage hit and his HotShots fell all the way down the well to number 11. Go Tigers were also out of the eight after they got monstered by Underbelly. These results were good news for the Red Devils who showed that the Herbs'N'Spices were not that hot and White Line Fever as they also marched into the eight after caning also rans Loose Husseys.

A couple of top eight hopefuls dared to poke their head above the parapet and were slapped down in Round 10 matches of Division V. There is no way that the Red Devils deserved the shellacking they copped when Underbelly announced themselves as a premiership contender with a solid score of 2568. Another side hoping to sneak into the eight was St Brays Saints but they were narrowly beaten by StrayCat Strut in a high scoring game.

These results made the clash between mid-table rivals White Line Fever and Go Tigers very important. White Line Fever ended up recording this vital win which was golden form Feevs as the other contenders all slipped on their arse this week. gcc_firm cleaned up StrayCat Strut the other week and nearly added the scalp of Chops Clots to their collection. However, the top side held on and the firm were denied.

So going into the bye weeks Chops Clots and Underbelly look like a good bet to be promoted with the jury out on Herby with his lower scoring. 12 teams still in the hunt for finals in my view so this means that 9 teams are effectively a chance of getting promoted with no promotion available to StrayCat Strut, Kiwi Krappers or Robbo.

There are normally a few upsets come the bye rounds and this trend started early in Division V as St Brays Saints and King Cobwebs knocked off top two opposition to keep their finals hopes alive. The Cobwebs proved they were the Kings when they narrowly defeated Mrs Robinson while St Brays Saints clobbered the top side Chops Clots to remain within striking distance of eighth spot.

The top two teams stumble was good news for Straycat Strut, Underbelly and Kiwi Krappers while a further game back White Line Fever and The HotShots also recorded important wins. The news was not so good for Go Tigers and the Red Devils who failed to impact on the scoreboard this week. Two struggling teams in Brendamage and Loose Husseys managed to end lengthy losing streaks which means that the wonder elephants are all on their lonesome in stone motherless last.

OK considering I am struggling anyway and am coming up against Heres to you Mrs - would you trade for this week or look at next week and get as many in to cover?

As it is this week I will have only 13 without using trades - next week only lose 9 but get 15 back.

Robbo rules the roost in Division V after HeresToYourMrs recorded a comfortable win over battlers Loose Husseys while fellow top of table side Chops Clots had a much tougher assignment in fellow top eight team HerbsNSpices. The other big match in the division was the clash between two top four sides as StrayCat Strut successfully defended their top four place against the challengers Underbelly. Underbelly's high scoring loss opened the door for Kiwi Krappers who denied St Brays Saints a desperately needed scalp as they try to stay in top with the top eight.

The King Cobwebs have been in top form in recent weeks with five straight wins being enough to see them displace a misfiring HotShots team in the top eight. Not for the first time this season gcc_firm caused the boilover but despite their ability to trouble the top sides the top eight seems a long shot for them at 4-8. Another team who is going well at the moment is White Line Fever who has now moved to 5th spot on the ladder after they smashed non-contenders brettsrazorbacks. WLF will hoping to grab that top four spot which would just about guarantee promotion to Divvy IV next season.

18 Wonder Elephants 0 13 22527 25901 86.97 0

The bye rounds are up and the jig might also be up for a couple of the stragglers outside the eight who failed to fire this week. St Brays Saints have been about the place all season but are about as consistent as the St Kilda Saints and they fluffed their lines big time against the HotShots who have defended their spot in the top eight for another week. Meanwhile, former top eight team King Cobwebs' run of victories came to an sudden end when they were flogged by 600 points by the unheralded Chicken Coup.

A couple of other sides took the opportunity to gain important victories. White Line Fever are looking good after they accounted for a Cat-heavy Straycat Strut combination and Kiwi Krappers cleaned up Herby to make Herbs'N'Spices a dicey ingredient come finals time. Robbo had the easy win against the last ranked Elephants but Chops did it a lot tougher in a vital win over Underbelly. Go Tiges, gcc and the Red Devils all kept their light on for another week with the Devils putting in a good stint to rack up some percentage against the battling Husseys.

The big match this week was between top eight rivals Chops Clots and White Line Fever. Both teams scored well but the top four may be out of reach now for WLF after the Clots won handsomely in what was a high quality fixture considering the Division in which it was played. Robbo continued on with his winning ways which means the Clots haven't quite risen to the top just yet. Straycat Strut were on the prowl with a fine score and Kiwi Krappers were another team who scored well.

Herbs'N'Spices won a key match against the HotShots which gives Herbie a very real chance of playing off in the finals in his first Hogg season. Outside the eight two non contenders in brettsrazorbacks and Loose Husseys haven't had much to cheer about this season but the tables turned this weekend as both recorded victories. St Brays Saints managed to do what they had to do to keep their season alive but it is starting to look a lot like last season for the Sainters.

The Wonder Elephants have secured the wooden spoon in this division as they will struggle to win one match let alone the three they need to catch up to second last Brendamage. Huzzah! Another fine season by the Elephants!

Love the write ups REB, keep them coming. Hoping Robbo runs out of trades, so I can knock him off come finals time,
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

There's only one thing you can say about this league, and that's you don't really want to be down here. Yeah, it's not as low as we go but this Divvy is pretty ordinary and if you fancy yourself as a SuperCoach player then you should be aiming to get promoted out of here and leaving this league for the stragglers in Divvy IV while your mob go up. This league has three 'ring ins' and they are all in the top four so Chops Clots has the inside running for promotion as they are the only eligble team for promotion in the top four. They are also one of the premiership favourites and the Clots will be tough to stop for this premiership. My StrayCats are half a chance but you can probably book me in for my once annual Grand Final loss with the Clots the favourite to get the nod. As for Robbo he will be down at the pub so that means I've just got to get past the Kiwi.

The teams in the lower half of the eight are right in the mix for a promotion spot. The HotShots and St Brays probably blew their chance to make the eight, especially St Brays who lost an 'eight point' game to King Cobwebs and look like narrowly missing the finals for the second year in a row. If the finals were tomorrow it would be the winner of the two elimination finals going straight up with the highest ranked 'lucky' loser taking the last spot. So while the finals are probably settled down here there are four sides playing off for three spots with the Clots already promoted to Division IV.

It's all academic in the last round as the top eight in Hogg Division V was decided this weekend. Lowly Brendamage did their bit by upsetting Underbelly but the Cobwebs cleaned up HerbsNSpice so the HotShots, St Brays Saints and Red Devils will all miss after getting rolled. White Line Fever had a solid win to confirm their finals place with a convincing win rather than a puzzling loss like Underbelly and Kiwi Krappers who were belted by non-contenders Go Tigers.

Relegation isn't really an issue in Division V so it's all about who goes up. Chops Clot are promoted already but will be looking to win a Hogg Premiership this season. They are the current premiership favourites and their 2246 would have troubled stronger teams than the unlucky Red Devils. The main threats to the Clops are Robbo and my StrayCats but both teams look a bit short of the Clots at their high scoring best..but you've got to get it done in August as we all know.

Robbo has scored himself top spot but will face a strong challenge from Chops Clots over the next four weeks. The top four is rounded out by Kiwi Krappers and StrayCat Strut who copped their second loss to a bottom five side this year when they got upstaged by Tex's Loose Husseys in the last round. Pre-season favourite Underbelly flexed their muscles and even though they missed the top four they could also be a late contender. White Line Fever should get the job done in their final against HerbsNSpices next week and thus earn himself a promotion to Division IV but the Cobwebs would need to reverse last weekend's result to ensure the same honor.

There probably won't be a Division VI next year so relegation won't really be on the table but if it was the Wonder Elephants with their winless season would be a worthy of their place in the worst league in the Hogg next season.

Finals Week 1

Qualifying Final
Straycat Strut 2373
HeresToYouMrs 2197

Qualifying Final
Chops Clops 2513
Kiwi Krappers 2461

Elimination Final
White Line Fever 2172
Herbs'N'Spices 2165

Elimination Final
Underbelly 2483
King Cobwebs 2317

And a big thank you to Robbo this week for his outstanding move to make Sam Grimley captain in our Qualifying Final. I cheered every Grimley possession yesterday knowing that he wasn't going to get anywhere near Paddy's score let alone what Goldy got and was sitting on his bench. So thanks to Slobbo my Strutties get the week off. Just as well too. This means that I avoid the mighty Chops Clots until the Grand Final. The clots smashed out a massive 2513 to defeat an unlucky Krappers combination that came to play.

The Elimination Finals were virtual promotion play offs. With three of the top four ineligible for higher honors it meant that whoever won was going up. Congratulations to Underbelly and White Line Fever who will be offered promotion to Hogg Division IV next season. The other two sides to go up are Chops Clots and King Cobwebs who finished higher on the ladder than the unlucky HerbsNSpices who missed promotion by a mere two points.

Semi Finals

1st Semi Final
HeresToYouMrs 2474
White Line Fever 2306

2nd Semi Final
Underbelly 2356
Kiwi Krappers 2319

Robbo has hit back from his captaincy snafu last week to set up the big Prelim against premiership fancy Chops Clots next week. Robbo and the Clots have been the best two sides in Division V but Slobbo's slip up last week gifted Straycat Strut the week off. My Strutties are playing against my sister Underbelly who are a much improved combination over the past two seasons and on scoring went in as the number one seed for this Division back in February. Underbelly triumphed over her partner Kiwi Krappers in a replay of the Piglet Shield Grand Final from last year but this time it was the Mob who got the victory.

Unlike the REBCats, the Strutties go in to next week in pretty good shape so I'm liking my chances of a Grand Final against Chop Clots but not liking my chances of improving on my absolutely dire Hogg Grand Final record.

Preliminary Finals

1st Preliminary Final
Underbelly 2407
Straycat Strut 2375

2nd Preliminary Final
Chops Clots 2517
HeresToYouMrs 2290

After talking my Strutties up last week I've come an absolute cropped, Melbourne style against my sister and I've been bounced out of the Divvy V Finals. This pits the best team all year, Chops Clots up against the pre-season number one seed for the league in next week's Grand Final. The Clots have had the Chops all year so he deserves to go in a warm favourite against Underbelly.

Grand Final

Chops Clots 2607
Underbelly 2441

Final Standings

1 Chops Clots 18 2
2 Underbelly 13 8
3 HeresToYouMrs 16 4
4 Straycat Strut 13 6
5 Kiwi Krappers 13 6
6 White Line Fever 12 7
7 King Cobwebs 10 8
8 Herbs'N'Spices 10 8
9 The HotShots 9 8
10 St Brays Saints 8 9
11 The Chicken Coup 7 10
12 Go Tigers 7 10
13 Red Devils 7 10
14 gcc_firm 6 11
15 Loose Husseys 5 12
16 Brendamage 4 13
17 brettsrazorbacks 4 13
18 Wonder Elephants 0 17

Chops Clots are the Division V champions after sealing the deal with an impressive performance in the Grand Final as they thrashed Underbelly in the Grand Final. The Clots look a good thing to press for higher honours next season after dropping only two matches all season in Division V.

Thanks Reb pulled out an almighty score for the GF, got lucky with no injuries at the end of the year & finished with 2 trades still in the bank.

Looking forward to trying to make a mark in another comp next year.
