Hopefully Bohdan walks soon, his term is up and he's promised too but nothing would surprise me.

If you seriously want the comp to die why do you bother coming to this website at all.

Wouldn't you just get on with life and not bother?

The threads of the past few days have been interesting reading.

The complaints about the on-field stuff are a hiding to nothing. The crows would have been bagged just as much for losing that game as they would have been accused of not trying hard enough.

The off field stuff is valid imo. It is clear interest in the comp is fading.

Here is what I think should happen to the structure of footy. Just trying to be constructive, so dont howl me down.

1. The AFL has a fully national reserves comp.
2. All AFL teams get Sydney style academies, which form the player pool for the topups.
3. The SANFL has an opportunity to forge its own identity again. It may mean it is smaller, and closer to ammos than afl in terms of standard, but I think it will be a good thing for the comp.
4. The hard part will be managing this transition.
5. The SANFL also needs to get its house in order regarding their content generation and move a lot of it in house. The AFL has been extremely successful in this regard, and there is an opportunity for the SANFL to do the same thing. The SANFL website is very average. They should look at live streaming every game, and having a couple of full time reporters pumping out multiple articles every day, rather than relying on the mainstream media to cover it, which doesnt seem to be happening.

Thoughts?

Sorry, was meant to add in its current format. And yes I'd rather the comp fold than see a AFL reserves side win the Premiership. There are only so many times you can write nasty emails/letters to the club and league and despite warnings at meetings from people that this would happen nothing has changed. Numbers are dropping off in alarming rates and if things are not changed before the start of next year then I'll be out also.
Hopefully enough people walk away from it to force the leagues hands. You only have to look at other state leagues to see where we are heading. 1000 will be a a good crowd in 2-3 years time

Whilst many valid points they all fall down around this one.

There is no way that the AFL will fund a national reserves competition now that it has the NEAFL, VFL, WAFL and SANFL serving this very purpose ( giving the left over AFL listed players a game ) without costing the AFL a cent.

The NEAFL is completely controlled by the AFL, you could argue the VFL and WAFL is too and ( watch them jump on this ) the SANFL is JUST standing on it's own two feet.....JUST.

I think I have finally worked this thread out. It's a contest to see who can be the most angry and upset.

As long as the SANFL keeps its representation on the SMA and controls this then financially they'll be fine. From a competition, well there be teams out there with very small crowds. How many teams I dont know.

But if the SANFL end up like the WAFL and out of the loop in terms of the new stadium with no seat or representation with the management authority, the it will be AFL-SA quicker than a Tripodi backflip.

Certainly no arguments from this long time believer in the local game. That (over)dependance on the 'popular' market dollar reached critical mass three years ago - hence the shit sandwich on which we now find ourselves snacking.

This, after all, is a footy league that passes off "We love footy" as a promotional slogan. A broken piggy bank and seconds of lost sleep coming up with that one.

Great stuff!
I think we have a lot to thank Roy Laird for here. His public complaint seems to have caught the public at exactly the right time.
I was in a shopping center at Norwood just before the Sturt/South game with my Sturt scarfe on. The young lady who served me turns out to be a Sydney/Central fan, and just out of the blue starts complaining about the reserves. She got no disagreement from me, and I took it as sign that there has been a shift in perception (I wear my Sturt or Carlton scarfe everywhere, people always comment on the scarfe in terms of what it represents, no one has ever spoken in a "reserves out" manner to me before).
Now I am reading that MMM is finally giving air time to the anti reserves side of the argument, and every caller spoke of discontent with the current set up.
Six heritage clubs have apparently held a non sanctioned meeting to discuss dissatisfaction.
Now Jarman is firing shots off!
I so bloody hope this keeps gaining momentum!!!
