get rid of the salary cap?

I'd keep the cap but scrap the draft.

I think this has merit. Would reduce congestion and improve the quality of the game more than any other idea imo.

No. No. No. Not you benny, you're the messenger, but please PLEASE STOP ******* WITH THE GAME!!!!

Why do we want to stop congestion, what's the fascination with stopping contests?

Contests with less people is best, otherwise we'd all prefer rugby.
Rule could actually make more contests, and more interesting ones at that. Don't confuse contests with stoppages.

I love the contests.

The game is looking more like soccer these days. Pass it back, then across, then hold it, then back across, then a long ball maybe. It is all very safe and bruise free with no real risks being taken.

This is not all games that are played, but certainly happens in a lot.

Not sure I agree with this, at least in the last few years. Quick ball movement is key and teams like the dogs and crows have proved that.

Though Richmond was still chipping it around a lot so it does still happen.

That free-flowing seems to be a lot more stifled though the longer the season goes on. Defensive prowess (generally) wins the biggest games and thus premierships, so it tightens along the way.

Dropping to 16 a side, along with the other myriad of changes made, means the game would barely resemble what it once did. Is/was it really that broken?

Exactly. Arguing it "could make it better" can be equally countered by "it could make it worse" with nothing backing up either side of the argument.

Spot on Booney. Exactly why you'd trial it first. If it makes the game worse scrap it, if it makes it better, keep bit. Simple.

Problem is much of what gets trialed gets implemented as a way of justifying the trial in the first place.

I get the feeling the last kick/handball out of bounds rule will be in next year.

The professional games so f**ked now I can't sit through a whole game. Umpires call what they want. Not what it is.

Why is there still 9 point goals in the pre season?

Not advocating bringing it in, but surely this should have been booted from those games a long time ago.

I'm happy for it to be trialled.

16 a side is ridiculous. Then we get 2 more on the bench and we go back to the issue we had 2 years ago where blokes would come off the bench and have 100kg 6'3 blokes run like the wind like robots and come off again rather than use skill when players fatigue. There is a reason why there was such a gap between the top 8 this year and the rest and that is because the teams who had more players with genuine footballing ability rather than robots were winning games when fatigue kicked in. Leave it alone footy this year has been a better spectacle than it has for a long time.
