But are they?

AFL reserves comp a matter of time I reckon. Will be the only way the SANFL will get back their soul because the SANFL won't make the decision. 2020? 2025? 2035? Question will be, how much of the SANFL will be left when it happens.

Ugh. I hate hoping the AFL will save the SANFL from the SANFL.

As much as I think an AFL reserves comp would be the best for the two AFL teams in SA and the SANFL, I can't help but think it's an idea far from the mind of the powers that be, particularly with the recent development of the women's footy comp.

Grahaml's right, though: the SANFL powers stand to lose too much face over admitting the idea is a dud, and will wait for the grown-ups to make the call.

Much like the Avro Arrow airplanes developed for the Canadian air force; the government removed funding for them and in the wake of the backlash, rather than admit they were wrong, destroyed every Arrow to remove the proof.

The Crows won't want to win the SANFL, there only servicing the AFL teams purpose

If the Crows win the flag it will bring on further unwanted attention to its SANFL side

At most they lose the GF comfortably

They will be told to lose the GF. I can see a narrow win in the prelim then a 4 or 5 goal loss to the eagles.

They wont want the attention a flag it will bring, it proves no purpose and means nothing to them.

various players will be well out of position "to see if they can fill a hole in the afl side" and the coach will get there late as he "had to be at a recovery session" or something.

I tend to agree. This will make it an even bigger mockery of the comp than it already is.
If the big boys lose to Syd on Saturday night, their SANFL mates will be more interested in mad Monday than beating Sturt.
That's Sturt's only hope.

Either way the SANFL team will be tapped on the shoulder to pull-up by Mr Olsen if they make the GF.

The whole thing is a complete and utter joke !

Yep, Hansie Cronje amongst others earnt lifetime bans for match fixing. That's how serious it is.
Nothing sucks so much as a supporter than watching any sporting contest and having to wonder if it is real, are they trying, did we really beat them, did we really get so close?
Yet the Ravens the only time we can be sure they're honestly putting in, is when they kick the other side off the park by a massive margin.
How is that scenario supposed to hold any interest for the purist?

Don't worry they will bust themselves in whatever games they play.
They are professional footballers.
A good number are playing for their footy futures,in SA or somewhere else!
I reckon a 5-10 goal better team than the other 2 left in the finals.

It was a ten year deal, so up for review at end of 2023?
By then a generation of fans who could've been attracted to the genuine character of SANFL would have never been. Possibly by then the SANFL would genuinely have become fully dependant on the reserves, owing to the evaporation of the die-hards that make up the soul of the clubs.
The 8 clubs must realise this. To save our league something drastic must happen this year or next, any longer and the damage will be permanent.

If the AFL lose on the weekend will the Crows want the SANFl side to lose so the whole squad can resume together for start of pre-season?
