Would have thought it would fall under the affiliated club insurance?

I know for cricket, some Premier Cricket Clubs run academies that don't play any matches yet are still covered by the Club's insurance policy.

The SFL have told us many times that there are issues with coverage once games fall outside of the starting ages in the AFL guidelines

Must say, the NEMJFA did an exceptional job with their finals scheduling on the weekend but by geez I witnessed some very ordinary umpiring from an older statesman.

Just throwing it out there, I've had to take over the coaching reigns for my sons team only about a month ago and not to my preference, I had an umpire come in and address my players pre-game (which I generally think is great) but this fella gave a great spiel and then done the complete opposite.

I felt like saying to him after the game to please not come in and talk to the kids if we have him this week again, it only confused them and was frustrating to watch.

Being an umpire each week I'm the last one to get on their case but yesterday's display was simply rotten and I would be very disappointed with myself if I produced the same display.

Finals to begin this weekend in the SANFL Juniors comp and IMO the season has been a very good one in most aspects. I don't think I could really complain about anything.
The umpires have certainly improved a lot since last season except a period of about three weeks where it was deplorable. Last weekend we had a "white" umpire that was as bad as I have seen for years then this past weekend we had an absolutely terrific umpire who explained every decision he made and encouraged the kids. He should be the umpire all the rest should try to emulate.

Umpiring what i have seen in the NEMJFA this season has probably been the best i have seen in my 10 years involvement in the comp.

Certainly yes you get the odd bad day from one or two but overall they have been very good.

Only grief i have is from a couple of weeks ago when one of our guys was tackled so high his helmet was dislodged and i made the passing comment, (a litle loudly) helmet ripped off must be high, went from a ball up to a free to the opposition. Then again I know the rules and should have kept it zipped.

Well done to the umps this year

So are the NEMJFA and affiliate clubs remaining defiant and staying away from SANFL Juniors in 2017.

I notice that there is a final 6 in U14 yellow but most other grades have a final 4 with the GF on 18/9. How will the final 6 work to get a GF on the same date? I though a final 6 would need a 4 week final series as opposed to the 3 weeks for a final 4.

Can be done if no double chance
Week 1: SF1 3v6; SF2 4v5
Week 2: PF1 1vSF2; PF2 2vSF1
Week 3: GF PF1 v PF2

My understanding is that it is up to the individual clubs if they wish to move to the SANFL as Hectorville did this season

Hence my question, they will probably change it to what LGIL said as they have nothing yet for week 2.

I do agree as a whole, the standard has been very good this season, we were due for a shocker, just didn't expect it in a final.

The finals structure is clearly laid out in the SANFL Juniors Rule and Regs

Any grade with 10 or less teams is a final 4 and any grade with 11 or more teams is a final 6, hence why a couple of grades will be a final 6.

They have come up with a final 6 that can be completed in 3 weeks and I can't come up with a better alternative. No team gets a week off but the top 2 get a double chance.

Week 1
QF: 1v 2
EF: 3 v 6
EF: 4 v 5

Week 2
PF; winner 1 v 2 versus lower ranked EF winner
PF: loser 1 v 2 versus higher ranked EF winner

Week 3
GF: winner of the PFs

I couldn't find it but thanks. As an aside the U16.5 Yellow have 11 teams and a final 4
