He certainly wasn't if he won a flag (or at least went top 3) this year. Keeping or sacking coaches isn't rocket science: you live or die by your W:L record.

For coaches who have the job across several years, whether you beat expectations and whether your club's W:L record improves or declines year-on-year are big factors, too. But ultimately, for most coaches, if you've won more than you've lost in the most recent season (or, at worst, the club has won more games than it did the previous year), you're safe.

The Cleveland Cavaliers sacked coach David Blatt with a 30-11 win-loss record last season.

Good move by the club and needed to be done swiftly to start looking at recruiting for next year. Cachia alone leaving will hurt us enough without any others that move on

Don't you mean mid-nineties Centrals? Didn't they have former Easybeats singer Stevie Wright as coach back then? ;)

Wow. Having had a quick read of a story about it, seems that the GM is put in place by the private owners, and then runs the team as a personal fiefdom without needing to consult with anyone (as long as he doesn't lose confidence of the owners).

I wonder if that's an all-time record in all sports for the winningest sacked coach? Probably not, because the lopsided nature of some comps, e.g. Premier League, means you can win more than you lose by a crushing margin, but still underperform expectations.

The Cavs GM is LeBron James ;)

It just popped into my head couldn't think of a footy coach with a positive W/L record getting the arse but yeah that would probably be the best record I've ever seen from a coach that got sacked. In the NBA the inmates run the asylum and supposedly Blatt didn't kowtow to LeBron enough. The assistant coach was preferred by LeBron so he was made the head coach and they went on to win the championship.

Grant Thomas getting the boot after going 14-8 for sixth place in 2006 is the best example I can think of in Australian Rules.

Stan Alves lead the saints to 13-9 in 1998 and also got the chop, 12 months after the club's first GF in decades. Must be a St Kilda thing :roll:

Happy Valley u18 coach got the sack in 2014 after being undefeated until losing the GF!

Mark Mickans record was reasonable when he got the sack from Glenelg. Don't think they've been that high on the ladder since.

On the local front, Echunga sacked their coach after winning an A Grade flag in 2011. True story!
